The much-awaited ruling from Federal Judge Susan Nelson in the Brady v NFL case finally came in late Monday. As expected, Nelson ruled in favor of the players. Nelson is lifting the lockout.

The owners were seeking an immediate stay, but NFL Network's Albert Breer reports that Nelson declined. Thus, the owners will seek a stay from the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, which is based in St. Louis. If they don't get the appeal granted, free agency could begin soon.

JUST PLAY BALL!

Honestly, I have to say I love the Chiefs, I like the Rams, I like the Redskins....But I LOVE FOOTBALL!  If we're all honest with ourselves, it's FOOTBALL that we love, our local team is just our outlet.  I am so tired of people getting on here arguing this point or that point, (not that they aren't valid).  But who cares?  We won't have any outcome on the votes or how this goes down.  If we did, the NFL and NFLPA wouldn't have done this in the first place since they both acknowledge it's the FAN getting screwed here.  I don't care how they figure it out, just FIGURE IT OUT!

It's kind of amazing how they can just de-certify and argue violation of Anti-trust if they can't bargain for what they want.  What a loophole.
However, at the end of the day, I don't see how a judge can really compel owners to operate their own business by terms they don't agree with.  If there was no mandatory mediation clause following the 2006 deal, this really should be successfully appealed.

Great the lockout is lifted, however the players no longer have a union and can't recertify or this ruling will be void. So once again, how does this help the players? The owners can still NOT have any mini-camp or OTA's and paychecks don't get cut till the regular season starts. This Judge and basicaly any Judge in the land of 10,000 Mistakes is going try to rule in favor of the players (Even if they are steroid taking linemen). Owners will get a ruling at a higher court out of this district and this will be a very long and drawn out process and the idiot Judge Judy just made it longer.

Nelson rules in favor of players, lifts lockout

Despite the immediate "result" for fans...this is NOT a good thing for the well-being of the league. This is step 1 in an MLB structure where the Giants (just throwing out a big market team here) are spending $400 million+ (the revenue difference in NFL and MLB leads to that higher number) where teams like St. Louis or Kansas City are stuck near the $80 million mark. Bad, bad, BAD judgment, not just for the fans, but for democracy. She's telling the owners they can't run their business the way they'd like to.  What will the government do next? Rule that the money I earned, and deposited into my poker account can't be withdrawn? Oh wait...

It's a monopoly, all monopolies get regulated somewhat by the law. Would you rather they weren't?
