Reggie Bush: 'It's been fun New Orleans'

NEW YORK -- It wasn't long after the Saints traded back into the first round that they drafted Mark Ingram. And it wasn't long after the Saints drafting Mark Ingram that Reggie Bush let the world know about his future.

In a not-so-cryptic tweet, Bush seemed to say peace out -- literally -- to the Big Easy.

"It's been fun New Orleans," Bush tweeted shortly before midnight EST on Thursday.

He also added an emoticon (you might know them as "the stupid smilies that my co-workers won't stop sending in emails") that was two fingers extended, aka "peace out."

To sum up: it seems like the Saints and Bush will be parting ways before the 2012 season. That seemed inevitable, barring Bush taking less money, but perhaps the ability to acquire Mark Ingram could mean that New Orleans won't have to even worry about paying Bush's potentially exorbitant salary.

The odd thing, though, is that Mark Ingram isn't a replacement for Reggie Bush. Because, um, Ingram's a running back. Like a real one.

That's not dogging Bush, really; he's just not a feature back. And he's lucky that he actually landed in a situation where a coach could manage to utilize his talents, because otherwise he might be in the big-time bust talk.

But the Saints won a title with Bush on the roster, so that's probably out of the question.

Given his statement on Thursday, there doesn't seem to be any question that if the Saints get Super again that they won't have Bush celebrating with the rest of the team.

Bush isn't going anywhere.  He'll take less money to stay in New Orleans b/c he fits the offense here and he knows it.  People keep saying that 'someone needs to go' or that it's a 'crowded backfield'.  Do they remember the playoff loss to the Seahawks?  The Saints had 7 injured running backs for that game.  Sean Payton's offense is based on play-action and you need to have a balanced running game for that to happen.  Thomas has struggled to stay healthy, Ivory has struggled in pass protection and Bush's biggest strength is going in motion not running up the middle.  Ingram gives you a bruising back that can pound the middle and is exellent in pass protection.  Bush isn't going anywhere.

Bush would be a perfect fit in the city of Miami where style counts more than substance.  Plus he'll be runnning behind a center who, as both Gator fans and Jon Gruden know, has "trouble snapping the ball".  Isn't that a pretty big flaw for a center - especially first rounder?

Lancito, the numbers so not agree with you.  During their last two years at USC, Lendale White was the starter and Bush was the backup.  White had more carries for more yards and almost twice as many TD's.  Bush was paid better and more loved by the media but White was bringing home the bacon for the Trojans.  Bush disgraced the Heisman brand, left his team on probation and took a bunch of money from the Saints that he never earned.  Ingram coud get more rushing yards in NO this year than Bush did in his 6-year career.

I think him and Lance Moore together make a position all their own. Somewhat like a slot but kind of a running back kind of thing. Plus they both are great in punt returns. The way Moore played Bush's position last may have showed the saints that it was time to send Bush and his mega salary packing. It truly is a shame though because not that many people outside New Orleans and it's fans know what kind of impact he made on that offense. Opposing teams had trouble accounting for him and he made play without even touching the ball. R.I.P. Bush.

What  a baby!  Just like the article says "he's just not a feature back."  And especially for the money, New Orleans can do better.  Sure he helped, but he's been hurt a lot and he shouldn't cry because the Saints picked up an awesome back for the future.

About time. Why would you even consider this guy at 8 or 12 million that he's supposed to get. On the market he won't be worth more than 5. I wouldn't call him a bust but shouldn't you get more for a no.2 pick than a bunch of half seasons?

33037, are you kidding me? Backed up Lendale White?? Come on, I know he hasn't been the splash expected in the NFL but he was an AMAZING college player...  You would have to be smoking dust to think he was anyones back up at USC...

Yes he isnt an every down back but he is far from a loser... In today's NFL there will be plenty of teams knocking on his door...
