Kevin Byrne, the Ravens senior vice president of public and community relations, pens an extraordinary blog post about what happened Thursday night as Baltimore tried to accept the Bears offer to trade into the No. 26 spot – which ultimately failed and caused the Ravens to miss their pick entirely.

Read the whole piece for some solid behind-the-scenes color, but here’s a small taste:

With just over four minutes remaining, the Bears called and made an offer. Oz told them "not good enough, we're ready to pick."  Chicago called back within a minute and agreed to Ozzie's suggestion. Almost instantly, Oz had (NFL player personnel expert Joel) Bussert on the line. "Joel, we just made a trade with the Bears. They're calling you now," Newsome said.

A minute later – now around the two- minute mark - Ozzie said: "Joel, I've got them on the other phone. They've agreed."

To the Bears: "Joel said you guys haven't confirmed the trade."

"Joel, they said they called. I don't know (who they called)."

To the Bears: "Joel says you guys haven't called. What's going on?"

"Joel, are you sure your phones are good? They said they called. Let's go."

And on and on it goes.

What happened between the Bears and Ravens?

Hmmmmm and how did your bears beat the lions in the first game last season? Ohhhh thats right the refs robbed them of the game winning TD. And it don't matter if he gets hurt again this is our life in Detroit but we get over it. But this is a new year and a new season we will see what happens IT IS WHAT IT IS.

Ok, a 1st round pick, stop your crying baby, leave that to the field this year when your QB gets hurt again!

What i don't understand and maybe someone can explain it to me is how can the commisioner let this happen? And where the bears punished at all for this insident? And i think the Ravens should get tha Bears number 1 pick next year.

What happened between the Bears and Ravens?

You are aware this happened in the first round and not the second?  The Ravens had the 26th pick overall and missed it opening the door for KC to jump ahead of them.

BS article

Typical sensationalistic scribble. This doesn't deserve to be called journalism and Katz should return his check. "... caused the Ravens to miss their pick entirely."  It looks to me like the Ravens selected a WR named Torrey Smith with the 26 of the 2nd.   How about a little integrity mixed into this article with a little effort of research. Here. I'll help you. Open a 2nd window on your computer, google 2011 NFL draft picks, pick any stinkin' one, scroll down and observe round 2, pick 26, Baltimore Ravens. Fix it, Katz, you putz. Your article is inaccurate, poorly written, or just plain deceitful. Pick one.

What happened between the Bears and Ravens?

That is absolutely amazing that that actually happened.  Didn't it happen once last year too?
