Hawk not impressed by players workouts

While the concept of a player-organized workout during the lockout seems like a great idea in theory – hey everybody, let’s work on our game to keep in shape, maintain our chemistry and camaraderie, and show everybody that we really want to play football!!! – Packers LB A.J. Hawk has a different theory about the effectiveness of such workouts.

Basically, he says, they’re not very useful at all.

"I've heard that different guys' workouts from different teams have just been a disaster,” Hawk told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “They're working out at bad high school fields and equipment and all that kind of stuff."

And that’s even if the high school will actually LET them on the field, right Greg Olsen?

Though the Packers haven’t scheduled any offseason workouts, Hawk isn’t worried about his teammates getting fat and lazy.

"We're all ready to come back. We never got out of shape," said Hawk. "The player gatherings are a good thing to get together and be with your teammates - that's the most I would take from it."

Hit-n-Run,

Fits you well as a name.  The facts you state on here are wrong the Packers never said they didn't want Hawk. They stated they did want him, but needed to work out a new contract for him to stay.  So yes they cut him to avoid taking a salary hit on his bonus and re-signed him the next day to a contract extension both sides felt comfortable with.   Hawk was a valuable asset to the Pack this year and I'm sure there would've been numerous teams willing to sign him.

I agree with Hawk. As i watched video of various players getting together, I thought about what good this would do except to get together with your buddys.
To me, it's a big waste of time and non-productive (and possibly have disatrous results if someone gets hurt). Coaches are coaches for a reason. these players aren't getting coached, except for by fellow players.
Most of these players work out in the off season, so who cares. It's not like they all sit around doing nothing until mini-camp or training camp comes around.

snack shortages in NFL cities!

Fantasy players plan on a high scoring season for receivers and QB's. Sara Lee and Little Debbie snack food retailers in NFL cities have been unable to keep their shelves stocked due to the insatiable fatman appetites of bored and restless NFL-ers who should be staying in shape but instead are just making babies and enormous sewer system blockages. One report has it that the Mississippi isn't overflowing because of rainfall, but actually because Albert Haynesworth blocked it at the Gulf after he passed out and fell in after over-indulging on nasty hoochie mama's and chocolate dipped deep fried twinkies. The defenses are going to be soooo slow and out of gas this year that even the Dolphins will be able to move the ball through the air... with Jeff George taking the snaps. One last thought. Question actually. Why did I waste my time writing this drivel, and more important, why did you waste your time reading this?

Hawk not impressed by players workouts

All AJ is saying is that players are resorting to working out at high school gyms, and maybe these are not the best workout facilities for a pro athlete preparing for a grueling season.

On the other hand, can't these guys find an elite health club to work out? Magnificent clubs are everywhere. Lifetime Fitness and other premium clubs would probably expand their hours for player-only workouts so the players would not be bothered by fans.

Ah, but these millionaire players are going broke because they just had to live beyond their more than ample means. They bought a $2 million house, a boat, a Lamborghini, and an Escalade, instead of buying a $1 million house, a Lexus sedan, and a Chevy SUV, and banking the rest of their money in case they have a short career or something else bad happens (like a lockout). Did they not put anything into stocks and bonds they could liquidate if they needed cash? Dumb money management. People sometimes get what they deserve if they don't plan ahead and be smart.

Being a packer fan I disagree with him years back i remember players comming back out a shape actually the trainer Dom G said it himself the players were over weight it was a disaster. now this maybe was only in Greenbay but I doubt it. they need to be prepaired they need to work out whether its togather or not we will see a diffrence. i would be very worried if i were clifton or tausher they are about done as it is.

"Let's look at the source. A.J. Hawk come on, airn't you the guy that the Packers are trying to get rid of and no one wants"

Where on earth do you get your information? Last time I checked, a new contract usually means that a team wants you... Get your info right and stop embarrassing yourself.
