NFL receiver Chad Ochocinco backed up his promise to ride a 1,500-pound bull on the Professional Bull Riders circuit Saturday night, earning $10,000 for making it out of the chute atop Deja Blu.

Ocho "only" lasted 1.5 seconds though. Actually, 1.5 seconds on a real, live bull is pretty good. But don't expect to see Ocho hopping back in the saddle.

"One and done," he said.

Ochocinco acknowledged that the Bengals probably weren't pleased that he was risking a career-threatening injury.

"I'm sure my coach was probably (upset)," Ochocinco said. "I mean, I would be, too. I'm sure the NFL is (upset), but I don't follow their rules anyway."

Ty Murray, a former world champion rider and a PBR director, coached Ochocinco the last two days at the Gwinnett Arena in hopes of preparing him for the powerful force of a bucking bull.

Murray compared the experience to a first-time skier attempting to navigate a run from the top of the French Alps.

"We practiced several crash scenarios today," Murray said. "He's a phenomenal athlete, he's very easy to teach because he's so athletic and aware of his body. But what he did was monumental and to try and ride a bull for 8 seconds with his lack of experience is impossible."

The decision to ride the bull was the latest publicity stunt in Ocho's offseason but he discounted it being any more dangerous than anything else he does in the workplace.

"No, every down is a risk to my career," he said. "Every time I wake up in the morning there's a risk to life in general. You never know what's going to happen. One of the things about me is I'm extremely interesting, I'm unpredictable and I am willing to do anything."

Ain't that the truth.

Sorry, I thought it was cinco who hid the cell phone in the goal post and made a call after a touchdown, but you get my point.

If someone is paying me millions of dollars to play football and "NOT GET HURT", I think the last thing I would do is to ride a bull !! This is not about courage, this is about responcibility to your team and fans. Cinco and Big Ben must have an IQ of 3pts. below a rock !!

the guy went and RODE A FREAKIN BULL
I wouldn't call that riding a bull.  The gate opened and he rolled off the bull instantly.  He's just a sideshow.  It's fans like Lumpco and Dreek that feed into this idiot.  Keep the focus on the NFL owners and players getting back on the field so we can watch football and not have to deal with these clowns and their attention grabbing antics.

Say what you want about him, but the guy went and RODE A FREAKIN BULL! Who cares how long it lasted (enter a "thats what she said" comment here), thats still courage as its definition. Unless we have an ex PBR rider in the forum, I'll be confident and say he did what NONE of us would do. Go Ocho, conquer the sports world by dabbling in each sport while DeMaurice Smith blows the opportunity for you to do that thing you normally do, which is to play football.

Say what you want about Chad Johnson, but Jose Canseco and Herschel Walker have never tried bull riding. I give Johnso props for attempting to ride a bull. I heard that Johnson wants to next try roller derby.

This is ENTERTAINMENT folks
ML:   Entertainment is the GAME.  No one really cares if Chad Johnson or Ochocinco attempted to ride a bull.  He's a sideshow in the circus the NFL has become.  Whiteshoes and Icky don't deserve to be lumped into the same category as Chad.  He's just a clown looking for attention. He is a total non-factor anymore for his team.  The game will be better off when he, Randy Moss and TO all hang up the cleats. The day of the primadonna is gone.  It was funny for a minute...now it's just old and tired.

"the union would file a grievance over it "--i.e., after the union reconstitutes itself once the labor dispute is settled.  Then, they'll no doubt contend that they can complain about somethng that happened while they didn't exist.

Think the $ 10,000 would have been enough to offset the salary he'll probably be docked by the club (once the labor dispute is settled) for engaging in dangerous activity in violation of his contract?  Of course, I guess he'll claim that that part of his contract doesn't exist during the labor dispute, and no doubt the union would file a grievance over it in any event . . .
