Cutler takes shots from Congressman Paul Ryan

Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan, thanks to his aggresJ. cutler (US Presswire)sively conservative budget proposal and ensuing media tour last month during the federal budget battle, has become something of a star. Now,the chairman of the House Budget Committee is making his debut in the Eye on Football blog thanks to some playful potshots he took at Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.

Ryan recently gave a speech to the Economic Club of Chicago and, according to Fox News, chose to break the ice by saying, "I want to thank you all for inviting me to speak. It was especially gracious of you to host me, even though I'm a Packers fan and I assume most of you are Bears fans. But that doesn't mean we can't work together. As chairman of the House Budget Committee, I stand ready to do whatever it takes to help you re-sign Jay Cutler.”

Then, he added, "I'm here to talk about the economy today -- about the need to get four quarters of strong, consistent performance. That wasn't another Jay Cutler joke, I swear. It could be, but it's not."

Zing.

In breaking down Ryan’s joke, it’s difficult to ascertain whether or not he is an educated fan. The last dig at Cutler was a clever reference to the NFC Championship knee injury controversy, but any common fan is still aware of that story. Ryan’s first dig is more enigmatic. He mentions re-signing Cutler, which isn’t a relevant issue given that Cutler is signed through 2013. But to say you’re a Packers fan and you’re willing to do all you can to help the Bears re-sign Cutler could be a veiled way of saying “Cutler stinks”. This makes Ryan’s quote just like all his other quotes: debatable and a matter of interpretation.

First of all, whether they are republicans. democrats or independents, most of us are not too enamored with our state and national politicians.  This guy is either stupid and/or has brass balls to go into Chicago which is highly unionized and democratic to give a speech.  Most likely, he was giving his speech at a closed session without the public, so he most likely was in a safe environment..
That said, he is not a fan of Cutler and was using him as a way to break the ice as I think most Chicago fans are, also, anti-Cutler.
Paul Ryan is very anti-union and did all he could to accuse union workers in Wisconsin of what was wrong with Wisconsin.  He should look in the mirror and realize it is their politicians mostly to blame.
Contray to Congressman Ryan, Cutler can rebound and have a good year and a good career.  I do not have much hope for politicians.

Ha ha. Slow news day. No debate.  A good natured poke at Cutler, based in truth. Cleverly and absolutely saying "Cutler Stinks!"

It was just some simple humor and I thought he was funny.

At least he did not say "I do not want to drop the ball, like Jay Cutler, on the budget improvements or have my ideas intercepted and taken the wrong way.".

This is just a congressman that happens to be a packer fan making a few light hearted jokes at cutlers expense to lighten the mood. It shouldn't be taken to seious. It may be an issue for bears fans but anyone else should just get a laugh out of it. And hopefully it motivates Cutler to play through anything now and live up to the tough nose reputation that comes along with being part of the bears orginization.

I like the Packers more than the Bears, but would like to see the Bears beat the Packers
just so this politician could eat crow if we have football this year. All politicians on every level suck. I know this is a sports site,
but it was brought up so I posted a comment, just because I can.Go Cowboys

If it isn't blantantly, ridiculously, self-evidently, undeniably obvious that the whole thing is a "vieled way of saying Cutler stinks", then you are a pinhead, Andy.  Seriously, what else could he have possibly been saying???  Think, dude.

Geez.
