Detroit Lions also turn down 'Hard Knocks'

Things are getting a little awkward for HBO, as another team -- this time the Detroit Lions -- has declined to appear on "Hard Knocks."

Previously, the Bucs said no, and then Denver declined to appear, now the Lions.

Per Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Lions turned down the opportunity earlier this month, though no one's issuing a comment about the decision.

"It’s one thing to have cameras on the practice field. These guys are used to that and every day there’s cameras, fans watching them practice and things like that," Schwartz said last year about the show. "But when you start getting into meeting rooms, when you start getting into the cafeteria, into the dorms, into the locker room and things like that, it changes the vibe."

The Lions would actually be a pretty spectacular show to watch -- Nick Fairley and Ndamukong Suh will be an epic defensive tackle tandem starting as soon as there's football, Detroit is -- already -- a popular playoff sleeper in the NFL, and Matthew Stafford's ability to overcome injury heading into 2011 is a major storyline.

Plus, I'd tune in just to watch Jim Schwartz listen to Metallica in his office. But, the front office also knows this is a team trying to shed a losing culture that's permeated the entire organization for many years, and it's probably a smart move to keep egos, etc., in check by leaving the cameras at he door.

But, hey, there's always the Atlanta, guys!

BUCKEYERIK, did you just claim that UM students are less educated than OU students? I think it's best to let you believe that.  You wouldn't make sense of my clear explanation anyways.

Screw "Hard Knocks!"  It was interesting once, but don't make a yearly series of it.  I understand that HBO and TV in general have completely run out of original ideas to air, but really!  If you let these dull, brainless, unimaginative network people beat something like "hard knocks" to death with endless sequels, they will be glad to.  The only thing they are capable of these days is to set up "reality shows" so that the public entertains the public and they cash cheques.  They are a total embarrassment and are now becoming irritating to anyone with a brain!

There's not a whole lot to film during a lockout. Teams are probably turning the show down because this year because they'll need every minute they can get to go over plays, gameplans, etc.

Wow, is it true? Do the Lions still exist?

I thought they were a holday myth, Christmas has Santa, Easter has the Easter Bunny, And Every Thanksgiving one NFL Team has to make the trek to Detroit to play the Lions, They are then rewarded with a win, and a few extra days to prepare for thie next game.

Man it would have been nice to see the Lions on Hard Knocks. There hasn't been anything good to talk about the Lions since B.Sanders! Now that they have a pretty good reason to be seen on TV because everyone wants to see how the defense will be this year with the addition of Nick Farley along with Suh. The main question heading into the upcoming season is if Matt Stafford can stay healthy throughout the NFL season.....if there's going to be one and to see what kind of season can "Megatron" will have if his QB can hold up. If everything goes ok for them than the Lions will most definitely be in the playoffs, but then again these are the Lions that we're talking about.Smile
