Minnesota Vikings Ray Edwards made his boxing debut on Friday night, handily beating T.J. Gibson in a four-round bout and winning by unanimous decision.

Per the Minnesota Star-Tribune, Edwards' win wasn't exactly crowd-pleasing, as the Vikes' defensive end drew boos and "Over-rated!" chants from the crowd in what was described as a "ugly professional boxing debut."

"I got some things to work on," Edwards said.

There was a "swim move" that drew some scrutiny, since it's probably more appropriate for Edwards' "day job" than his newest hobby.

"This ain't football," Jeff Warner, Edwards' manager, said. "You can't throw people like that."

Edwards spent much of Friday during the day battling a bout of diarrhea, which apparently caused him to cramp up in the second round of the fight.

That's when he caught a big right hand from Gibson -- but that hit wasn't nearly enough to offset the first- and fourth-round knockdowns that eventually gave Edwards a decisive 40-34, 39-35, 40-34 victory.

"I think he'll be a great fighter if he can keep it up," Gibson said.

Ray is a foot taller then this guy.  It would have been nice to see Edwards fight someone close to 6'5".

Great.  At least he is out trying to make a living.  Put him in there with a good fighter and he will get torched.

He could be a monster if he learns how to fight.

Poor jabs, no hip rotation with his punches, very little use of his shoulders as well to deliver strong blows.  Standing too often in one spot.

He does look to be in great shape and I hope the rest of the team is training like this.  The bad thing is Ray is very agitated with the Vikes for not giving him a decent contract.  He certainly deserves more than they tendered him especially when the poured the $ out for  some of his linemates.

Yeah he was definetly stiff but so was his jab.  He was huge in the ring and I agree that if he actually learns how to use the rest of his body he will tear some dudes down.  Let's see his next fight and see if he shows progress or if he's just a straight bull.

From that video he barely even used his hips.  Imagine the force he could put into every punch if he actually knew HOW to box.
