Braylon Edwards follows through on a big promise

B. EdwardsPosted by Andy Benoit

Braylon Edwards might be best known for his mistakes – and deservedly so. But the Jets free agent wide receiver is also one of the most charitable players in the NFL. On Tuesday, Edwards followed through on a promise he made to provide $1 million in tuition for 100 Cleveland students. It was called the ADVANCE 100 Program, an educational initiative established by the Braylon Edwards Foundation in May of 2007.

As part of the program, the students had to commit to 15 hours of community service annually and maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or better.

“As the 2nd most hated man in Clev & a man of my word, today I will honor a promise made to 100 students in Cleveland years ago,” Edwards tweeted. “The last of my Advance 100 students will graduate from my program and head off to college on scholarships that I will provide them with. Guys enjoy and embrace your new beginnings and remember your promise to me, to reach back & help someone else along the way.”

With all the crap going on with the NFL it is very nice to find a story like this and from a player like braylon!   We only hear the bad stuff and usually Braylon is mixed up in some crazy sh%t, I wish i could shake his hand today and thank him for being a great person.

Players don't get enough of what?  When you have a million dollars to give away, you make enough.

Sure, he's been a knucklehead at times; but the pwer and grace of this contribution dwarfs all that.  Compare with Jalen Rose, who gets big headlines for donating a car he almost never uses as some kind of big deal philanthropy to aid education.  Edwards shows he is the real deal.
