In statements that will surely not make his former teammates (and the rest of the league’s players, for that matter) very happy, Kurt Warner told USA Today that eventually the players will have to cave in to the owners in order to end the labor strife.

"I'm still optimistic that they're going to find a way to make sure there's football," Warner told the paper. "The players have too much to lose. And as much as I hate to say it, at some point, the players have to give in. And, hopefully, they can gain some other things on their side.

"But ultimately, they have too much to lose."

Warner makes an interesting point, and I think he might very well be correct, though some players have questioned why Warner would even say this now. As the summer months roll into fall and players still aren’t receiving paychecks, I certainly could see a huge crack in the foundation of the NFLPA’s supposed solidarity. The owners obviously have larger chunks of money to lose, but they’re also much better equipped to handle it.

You won’t, for instance, see an owner trying to secure a $500,000 loan with 23 percent interest. Instead, they force one-week furloughs on their lowest level employees in order to save money in tough times.

Said Warner: "I always hope, 'Let's get something that's good for everybody.’ (But) just because we have leverage doesn't mean we just screw the people we have leverage on.

"Let's come together and say, 'This is what we need. We need you guys to pull back here, and we want to make it so you can get benefits and you can be taken care of long term.' … That's what I hope gets done. The players have to give a little, and the owners have to give a little, and it's good for everybody in the end. And let's go play some football."

To the players.....I deliver the mail for a living.  Its hard work. I'd like to see you do it... I make a fraction of what you guys make. Sorry, but I have no sympathy for you...best of luck     &
nbsp;
   To the owners...billionares, all of you.  You would be suprised how many fans have had it up to here with your whining and  your unbridled greed. In a perfect world, every diehard football fan would do what I am going to do...walk away from the NFL.  I ASSURE YOU ALL...I have better things to do on a sunny South Florida Sunday afternoon. Goodluck ....thanks for the memories...GOODBYE

Warner: players will 'have to give in'

I love when people say the "players are the game". Then let them go start their own league...wait - that won't work - why not? Because the fans are fans of the TEAMS - not the players - you swap The Jets and Patriots QBs and in a second the Jets fans will cheer instead of boo Brady. The owners OWN the teams, they OWN the leases on the stadiums, they OWN the TV contracts. It is THEIR league, and THEY are entitled to the money that is made - this whole concept of the players being entitled to ANYTHING is pure BULL****. They are employees and they make a lot of money - way, way too much money in many cases. I hope the courts bring the players to their knees and DeMaurice Smith to an unemployment line.

The problem with the players today is, they think they`re bigger than the game. And don`t think they can be replaced, which Green Bay proved, any player(even legends) can be. If players think they are being treated so unfair(and even slaves, as a few are stupid enough to believe), then they do have the ability to walk away, and find a career that pays them as much, for half of year`s work.

Warner should have said the players will 'have to give in and work for slave wages.'  Poor Adrian Peterson.

Ya think? The players are idiots. They have a 4 year career that will set them for life and they want to take a year off? It would be like the normal Joe taking 10 to 20 years offf in the middle of their career. Who is that stupid to do something like that?

I agree with K. Warner.
