Players/owners meet again in secret

As CBSSports.com’s own Mike Freeman reports, the owners and the NFLPA have restarted their labor negotiating meetings in secret.

Though we all know the two sides did the same thing last week in Chicago, nobody seems to know the location this time around.

Which might actually be a positive sign. The deeper both sides are hunkered down in talks, perhaps the more progress is being made. (That’s what we like to think anyway.)

Not that today’s development is a big surprise. Commissioner Roger Goodell said last week that both sides would meet again. He just didn’t say when and where. But the fact that they’re happening -- even if nobody else in the world can find them -- makes us much more optimistic.

UPDATED 8:47 PM (ET): According to ESPN.com, the two sides met in a New York City hotel room. In attendance besides Goodell, NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith and a handful of owners and player reps was magistrate judge Arthur Boylan.

This is a brilliant move by the owners.  What is a better way to prove in court that the decertification of the union was a sham then to continue to negotiate with the shammers in the weeks before the hearing.  The players have already lost and if any of them had actually attended class while they were in college driving around in their free sports cars they would know it by now.

Didn't the NFLPA claim to be unable to collectively bargain any longer, as a result of having decertified?  So what are they doing there?  Was the decertification a sham after all?  And if the union--pardon me, "players' association"--can't represent the players in bargaining, who can?  The lawyers who have only a few of the players as clients? Who speaks for the rest of the players?

Phht! The Bengals? sucked the life out of you? Walk a lifetime in my shoes pal, the Bengals have been to two superbowls (albeit with losing efforts). The lions have won one, 1, uno, playoff game in my entire life spanning 4 decades. Quit you're crying.
