Rivers not headed to UFL if lockout drags on

Philip Rivers is often mentioned as one of the NFL's best quarterbacks. The unquestioned leader in San Diego, he was part of a 2004 draft class that included Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger. Poll 100 fans, and the majority would take Rivers over the other two, even though he's the only one without a Super Bowl ring. Which just reinforces the point that it takes more than a franchise QB to win championships (although it's almost impossible to pull off without one).

Like most players, the lockout has left Rivers with no day job and a lot of time on his hands. To keep busy, he has organized team workouts to keep some semblance of order amid and otherwise weird offseason.

On Wednesday, Rivers spoke with XX Sports Radio (via SportsRadioInterviews.com) in San Diego about everything from an eight-game season to whether the UFL (!) would be an option if the NFL season is pushed back or canceled.

The league has contingency plans for a shortened schedule should it come to that. And while it's not something anybody wants, recent history suggests that it won't have much of an impact on the eventual champion. Which might explain why, in Rivers' mind, whether eight games or 16, a Super Bowl title is a Super Bowl title.

“Oh, eight game season (is) crazy," Rivers said. "Shoot you only played 10 in high school. Play eight, get in, let’s go. It counts the same.

"I certainly won’t feel bad if that’s the case and we’re able to go on and win it. Definitely eight games over no season. Certainly prefer 16 over eight, but there needs to be football of some sort. I’m not ready to concede to the fact that eight games is a possibility. We still have two months to get something done.”

Rivers admitted that he "just can't really even believe [a lockout] can happen" because "I don't have a back-up plan." He even went so far as to tell his wife that "I’m playing football somewhere, sometime this season."

That led to the inevitable follow-up about if that meant the UFL was an option.

“No... . I’m not going that far. I just can’t imagine not playing football and it’s not happening. I think everybody else feels the same way. Hopefully both sides with this lawsuit and negotiations feel the same way too. Ultimately it’s like that research paper that’s due, you’ve known it for three months but for some reason you’re sitting up at the last night typing it at midnight. It’s not midnight yet…"

Translation: "I love football, but not enough to risk the rest of my career, millions of dollars, and the chance at some titles just to play with the Sacramento Mountain Lions."

For now, Rivers, like the rest of us, waits. Just don't expect him to keep you updated on his offseason goings on via Twitter because he's not a fan. “I understand it can be a great tool and it can be super positive," he said. "It just seems to me to be something else to manage that doesn’t seem to be necessary.”

We have no idea what you're talking about, Philip.

So by doing the very thing...again...that I caught you doing you felt the need to point out just how childish your behavior can be? Interesting approach. I thought you were leaving junior? I guess once a back tracking liar always a back tracking liar. And yes, Philip Rivers, then Ben, and Eli stills stands. Nothing you or I can say will change Philip Rivers being the best of the three. They decided that on the field regardless of how childish you become. Night, night junior. Don't let the bed bugs bite there in Oakland.

More I'm rubber, you're glue from the poor little guy that didn't know his football.

Thank you.  I had just wondered what grade you were actually in as I read this bit of brilliance.  Again, I appreciate the laughter you have provided.  For all of your name calling the reality of the 3 QB's and their pecking order still exists  Enjoy your reality.

The only thing you "fixed" Irrelevant is the opinion of myself and others that you are a TOOL.

Really, who are these others that feel that accuracy, and understanding makes someone a tool?

Your creatiive use of the language as well as your manipulation of my words is humorous.  "Irregardless" is not nor will it ever be a word.  LOL  You must be referencing the same dictionary that has me listed as a Raiders fan.

No, I am refering to every dictionary that lists words, as words. I think along with your lack of knowledge in football, you can add not knowing what a word is. And because you lack the guts to list that you are a Raiders fan, I pointed it out for you.  what team do you claim then? After all the team you root for seems to be important in your opinion, your uneducated opinion of what drives understanding of the game of football.

http://dictionary.reference.com/bro

wse/irregardless
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dict

ionary/irregardless

etc..etc..

The Raiders have NOTHING to do with this thread.

Just like being a Charger fan has nothing to do with how much I understand the game, and how little you do.

Rivers vs. Rothlesberger vs. Manning...  no Raiders.  Again, ty for the lol.

lol must mean crying in your fantasy world...

Also, I am not sure what accurate football "facts"  you have cited (that line, BY FAR was my favorite...  "multitude" of facts....LMAO).

Everyone is confident you don't know what accurate facts are. But again, thanks for pointing that out.

I am still resting on the number "0"...

We don't need to read your football IQ, those that understand the game already figured that out. Are you under the impression you could every teach anyone anything?

the amount of times that Rivers has lead his team to a title.

4 time AFC West Champion, but nice to see you finally realized that you were indeed saying QBs won games all by themselves...and that is the rambling of a fool.

But hey, by all means, stick with Rivers and enjoy a lack of success in the post season.

But then like most people that do not understand something, fall back into the same incorrect thinking when trying to make another false point.

Rivers is not a winner and never has been.

Except in High Shool, College and the NFL, life, and whatever he has tried to do...but other than that you may have a point.

Rivers and the Chargers have not won a Super Bowl and have exited the playoffs early since his arrival in the San Diego area.

Yep, they only have the one solitary League Championship in 1963, and the one AFC Championship games where he played on a torn ACL...just the facts right? The fantasy facts of Mr. guywithuneducatedopions...

I thought it ironic and humorous that the guy the Chargers tried to take in that famous draft has lead his team to a Super Bowl while the guy the chargers settled for has not.

Irony is an unintended result. If you contend that Eli Manning is better it would not have been ironic, and had you paid attention the Chargers stated rather publically of their desire for Philip Rivers, especially Marty S. that raved about him after coaching him in the senior bowl, and only drafted Eli Manning because the Giants covetted him, and to get outstanding value...but you haven't exactly shown a knack for paying attention.

You have succeeded in one thing only, proving you are a tool.

More I'm rubber, you're glue from the poor little guy that didn't know his football.

Your attacks on me are silly and lacking in facts and contain nothing more than your charger friendly opinion.

Even more I'm rubber, you're glue from the big boy...

Rothlesberger is better than Rivers and wins football games.

Not if you understand football or watch football games, but if you don't like Philip Rivers because you are a Steeler fan, or a Raiders fan...sure...that sounds about right, not accurate you understand, but the views of the childish and ignorant...

Manning had  1 sensational post season and 1 Super Bowl ring... Rivers has yet to have either.

You have this knack for crediting team accomplishments to individual players like ignorant uneducated people do.

So, move on Grandad and find another non-charger fan to harass.

Correcting you once, and then responding to your whiney, and back tracking attempts to look even more foolish than in your original post isn't attacking you, it's just pointing out the obvious. You should say stupid things if you get your feelings hurt when you get called on it junior.

REGARDLESS of your opinion

Mine is not opinion, that would be your everything indivuals are measured on points to Philip Rivers as the better player, but I don't understand that teams win in team sports so i will take the most absurd approach possible to make myself look like a fool approach...

re: Rivers and who I might root for, you are so far off topic now, that I will excuse myself from this thread.   In the future, you may want to keep things on topic.

With your tail between your legs...because you only proved yourself more foolish and ignorant with each new post.

  Tool.

You most certainly are, bye-bye little crybaby.

Moral of this story, no matter how childishly you whine and cry, you can't change facts with you uneducated opinion.

But you can, and have shown you are a fool.

Crying your Ass Off.

The only facts here are this....

1) I am a whining Raiders fan.
2) this article is to be filed under the "duh" category as no starting NFL Qb should join the UFL.
3) QBs do not win games in Football, but if they did Rivers has won in the post season.
4) You made no claim that QB's win games (unless someone reads what you wrote multiple times and in the statement above I just corrected), just that Rivers has not won (there, you did it again Brittany) in the same way that the other two guys have.
5) At least I can acknowledge acturrate facts about the game of football, that Philip Rivers is in the same conversation as Peyton Manning, just not quite as good... one of a multitude of facts I have made clear.
and lastly,
6) rings don't make players better, but people that are completely ignorant of the sport use this to get them into conversations regarding the "BEST" of which, is completely false, and Rivers is most definately in being better than two recent examples that have ridden their team to championships.

Opinions (which guywithanuneducatedopinion has many)...
1) He are a tool.
2) He doesn't like that the Chargers QB is better than the Raiders QB and this fact clouds his judgement
3) the chargers may never win the big game with Rivers at QB because teams not QBs win games, but that does not at all change the very real fact that he is a better QB than some, namely Ben Roethlisberger and Eli Manning.

Your screen name is perfect....  REGARDLESS (iirregardless not being a word, except that it is a word, but ignorance of things seems to be what you are good at) of my own name calling and mudslinging, Rivers still has not won a Super Bowl, because individual players have never won a game of football because it is a team sport and literally impossible to do, and has lead his team to post season success but fell just short not so long ago that a knowledgeable fan would remember.

I will whine, cry and make more false claims is displaying that I am a tool.

There, I fixed it for you junior.
