  • The Sports Business Journal reports today that NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith made $2.45 million last year and that his current term ends next March. Depending on how this lockout plays out, I wonder if he’ll get much opposition for another term.
  • Before the NFL Draft, Jets RB Shonn Greene didn’t know what the team had planned for him next year. But after coach Rex Ryan announced he would be the main guy in the backfield, Greene said he now knows the kind of confidence his coaches have in him.
  • AEG is doing everything it can to woo a team to Los Angeles, but the Bills are not on the immediate list for relocation. However, the Buffalo News points out that when owner Ralph Wilson dies the organization could be a viable candidate to leave Buffalo.
  • 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh is optimistic about the labor situation. He thinks a deal can be done by early July.

Hot Routes 6.13.11: Nice payday for De Smith

Bottom line is the owners of NFL teams are in business.
It is NOT a “not for profit business”, but it presents an opportunity for
spoiled athletically inclined people to continue playing a game that they have
played for fun most of their lives. What the owners make HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE
PLAYERS AT ALL. The players are EMPLOYEES and EMPLOYEES only. If you don’t like
the salary then go use that College Degree you were GIVEN or find another way
to make money.
Again D. Smith is another example of what
happens when people put their welfare into the hands of someone blindly. Upon promises
of greater wealth he has said follow me idiots and don't you dare question me. That
type of labor leaders have become a greater threat than what the union was
designed to combat. Come-on players & owners, you are supposed to be intelligent
College educated individuals, what do YOU really want/ How many $ do you really
need/deserve for your efforts. Take responsibility for your profession; help
the vets who made your job popular, help lower costs for the average fan get
into the door to watch you and help PAY for your work place instead of raping
the taxpayer to provide your grand palaces.
I dare you. LET football take a year OFF and see your true value you in life.

His income for this year will be more interesting to see since he supposedly reduced his pay to 68 cents is there was a lock-out.
