David Tyree is not in favor of same-sex marriage

A few days ago we brought you the news of former Giants LB Michael Strahan’s endorsement of marriage equality for everyone.

So, with the New York state legislature teetering on the brink of passing a law that allows the legalization of same-sex marriage, former Giants hero David Tyree has weighed in on the matter.

And though there have been some high-profile athletes who have come out in favor of the law – Strahan is one and NHLer Sean Avery is another – Tyree takes the opposite approach (and the same attitude that the most commenters took on the original Strahan post).

Namely, Tyree says anarchy will rule if same-sex couples continue to marry.

"This will be the beginning of our country sliding toward, it's a strong word, but anarchy,” Tyree told the anti-gay group, the National Organization for Marriage, via the New York Post. "How can marriage be marriage for thousands of years and now all the sudden because a minority, an influential minority, has a push or agenda ... and totally reshapes something that was not founded in our country.”

It’s interesting, though. In his interview, Tyree  talks about how his father wasn’t in the home when he was growing up (he says he was impacted severely by that). But a fair question to follow that would be: Well, what if he was raised by two mothers in a committed relationship instead of just one mother? Or two fathers? Would that have been so much worse than growing up in a single-parent home?

You can check out the video below to see the full interview.

@ Daddy052

Outstanding.  A courageous man like this needs to run for office.

LMAO. There are plenty of "courageous men" like Tyree in politics already but I think we need to go for the juggular and get the Ultimate Warrior the Republican nomination in 2012. The former wrestler is now a political activist and I highly recommened checking out his opinions.

@ mikednkc
I have never seen such hate from so called "christians".
Yeah, it's not like Christians have been intolerant of differing beliefs throughout history or anything.

...

As for the issue of children being raised by same sex couples-- I would imagine it would be a bit strange but then again, My Two Dads was a great show.

@cubuffan

so basically you are saying that because I don't feel their lifestyle is right, I'm looking down on Gay people.. I don't feel adultery is right but I don't look down on the people commiting it because I don't judge them.... There is a DIFFERENCE IN JUDGING PEOPLE AND NOT AGREEING WITH THEIR ACTIONS.. it's not my place to judge as I feel God will handle that.. If a Gay person (man or woman) asks my opinion on their lifestyle I have the right to give it to them.. that doesn't mean that I hate them at all..  I have been taught and believe that marriage is between man and woman.

So Johnno54, you think that gay couples should be inferior under the law?

It's all about terminology, and I think that is what bothers most people. Let's keep "marriage" for "men and women" and the gay movement can come up with something else for their union. I just don't like it being shoved down my throat (no pun intended)!

Sounds perfect.
