Earlier today, we told you about a report from Yahoo! Sports that said the Saints gave RB Reggie Bush permission to seek a trade two months before they drafted Mark Ingram in the first round of the draft.

According to Bush, the story is not true.

Contacted by WWL.com out of New Orleans, Bush said the Saints did NOT give him permission to find another team that might want him.

From the story:

I texted Bush a message which read, "Yahoo sports is reporting that the saints gave u permission back in February to gauge interest of other teams for u.  Is that accurate?"  Bush responded, "Lol! Absolutely not!"

Just to be absolutely certain, I again texted, "just so I have this right u were never given permission to gauge interest of other teams? Right?"  Bush replied, "For the second time no."

WWL then contacted Jason Cole, the writer of the Yahoo! Sports piece (and a well-respected reporter), and his response basically was: Hey, Bush can say whatever he wants.

But as CBSSports.com’s own Larry Holder, who covers the Saints, points out, "None of these reports of Reggie Bush surprise me. And just because Bush denied it to WWL-AM doesn't mean it's false. He denied USC stuff too.”

Bush is slated to make $11.8 million next season, and that contract almost certainly will not be paid – either Bush will take a pay cut or New Orleans will cut him loose.

With the drafting of Ingram, I’m guessing it’ll be the latter.

Bush says he had no permission to seek trade

Anyone still believe a word that comes out of his mouth?

Also, the Texans made the right choice.

Bush says he had no permission to seek trade

This is just a NFL filler story! Bush is going nowhere any time soon. He will sign a 4 year $24 millon contract. Take it to the bank...

Bush says he had no permission to seek trade

Bush is an outstanding weapon on first and second downs when the offense is least predictable. He can line up anywhere and confuse a defense, spread them out, and burn them with big plays on occasion. Most NFL teams would love a guy like that, but not at the salary he's making.

Bush says he had no permission to seek trade

I disagree, BigByrd. I don't think the Saints use him properly at all. I agree that he's not a three-down back, but I also don't see him as a "get us the first down on the third and short" kind of guy. He's more useful on screens and out in the flat catching the ball in space and making people miss than he is at pounding the line..which is why he was on returns, too.

I'll take him in AZ...not at 11 mil, but I'll take him to compliment Hightower and Wells as a serious threat when he gets the ball in space. Not that we can get anyone in space nowadays, but that's another issue.

Bush says he had no permission to seek trade

I agree boomer, I would take him on the Colts with Peyton in a heartbeat, plus we have never really had a real special teams guy either to return kicks.  Send him to Indy.

Bush says he had no permission to seek trade

How would any of the reporters know what actually happened?  All they know is what the Saints told them and what Bush is telling them, and who's to say which version is correct?  The only way they could would be if the Saints showed the reporters copies of the correspondence with the appropriate receipts attached.  And I doubt that that happened, because if it had, all the reporter would have had to do would be to show copies to Bush or mention them to him, and it doesn't appear the reporter did that.

Barring something like that, is there some kind of assumption running through these reporters' minds that only players lie and that only club officials never lie?  And is there anyone else who believes that?
