Former Dolphin OJ McDuffie bowls perfect game

OJ McDuffie played nine seasons in the NFL, all with the Dolphins. In 1993, Miami drafted him in the first round (25th overall) out of Penn State, and when it was all said and done, McDuffie had 415 career catches, 5,074 receiving yards and 29 touchdowns.

It's been a decade since McDuffie last caught an NFL pass, but he's still in South Florida and, even at 41, he's still one of the best athletes in the room. We say this because Tuesday night, McDuffie bowled a perfect game at the AMF Lanes in Davie, Fla.

How do we know this? Because CBSSports.com's Patrick Pfaff witnessed it in person.

"The alley was about to close and we look over at this large group and we see everyone watching one bowler as he enters his final frame," Pfaff told the Eye on Football blog in a CBSSports.com exclusive. "He throws it down and gets a strike. The alley erupts, bells and whistles are going off -- he'd just bowled a 300.

"So naturally we want to go over and see who had bowled the perfect game, and its a short but muscular man wearing a shirt that says 'OJ McDuffie's 300 club,'" Pfaff said. "He's jumping up and down, obviously overjoyed, and that's when we realized it was Dolphins great OJ McDuffie."

Here's the video proof, too. (Warning: there's some naughty language so keep that in mind before you watch it at your cubicle with the volume blasting.)

A quick Google search shows that McDuffie isn't new to the sport -- his Catch 81 Foundation hosts an annual Strikes for Kids Bowling Tournament with the proceeds going to charity. As a side note, Chad Ochocinco might think about taking up bowling as an offseason hobby. It's safer than soccer or riding a bull, and the learning curve isn't quite so steep.

I can assure you that he doesn't take any performance enhancers.  Some athletes, such as OJ, are just born with the gift of being a good athlete.  It's too bad that the bad reputation of some taints the ability of others.  OJ is a great person, I know him personally, since he was born, and I will tell you he has always been an honest person and a great guy.  I know cause I am his Auntie!!!!!!!  I can't believe  how you are precieving him.  Have you ever met him?

Well he's my nephew and I call him great.  Critics kill me with their mini assessments.  What great things have you accomplished in your life.  Just because you don't think he is great I am sure there are millions who do.

It is not the fact he bowled a perfect game, it is the fact he bowled a perfect game when someone bowled a 74 right after him.  Now I am impressed!

I agree with the slow newsday post. I guess we're just desperate for ANY news about an NFL player right now.And I wouldnt call him great either.

They need to test him for performance enhancers.

I am a Dolphin fan...but calling McDuffie "great" when referring to his football career, would be quite a stretch.

As far as the story goes, it is nice to read about atheletes that are doing the right thing.  The 300 game is awesome,,
but still hosting his charity event 10 years after he is out of the game...that makes him a "great" person.
