Colts might have plenty of free agents to sign

ManningPosted by Josh Katzowitz

The biggest worry for the Colts franchise when the lockout ends is the contract of QB Peyton Manning and whether the two sides will agree to a long-term extension. For now, Manning has been franchise-tagged for 2011, though his agent would like to get rid of that designation by dropping it in the next Collective Bargaining Agreement.

But aside from Manning, Indianapolis has plenty of work to get done in order to secure the services of some of its most important free agents, especially if the new CBA allows unrestricted free agency after four years of service.

That means RB Joseph Addai, LB Clint Session, OT Charlie Johnson and S Melvin Bullitt would be eligible to leave.

"As far as me coming back or being gone, I don't know,” Johnson told the Indianapolis Star. “I will just take it as it happens. I'm working out, trying to get better and hoping a deal gets done. But I can't concern myself with 'what ifs' at this point."

Indy's offseason
But Bullitt, taking over Bob Sanders’ old position, definitely wants to return to the Colts.

"I'm probably the strongest I've been in two years," Bullitt said. "I want to play in Indy again. That's what I'm planning on. But the reality is I'm not signed with anyone … I want to finish my career in Indianapolis, but I will have to make a decision quickly."

Returning to Indianapolis seems like a no-brainer for many of these free agents, especially if they can get somewhere close to market value for their services. With Manning running that team, the Colts are always going to be in contention for a Super Bowl.

But if, for some reason, the Colts can’t re-sign Manning, they’ll be in a world of trouble. Not just because they’ll be letting go one of the top quarterbacks of all time, but because without him, it’ll be tougher to convince top-flight free agents to return to a team that would have Curtis Painter at the top of the depth chart.

Colts might have plenty of free agents to sign

Really what are the chances of the Colts not resigning Peyton Manning.  If they did not the Isrey would be as popular are they are in Baltimore now.  I question I have if they did not for some reason, where would he go.  I am assuming there will be a salary cap so someone would have to have a lot of room to sign him.  Even if contracts could be restructured, would their be time to get it done.  So in my mind, it would be a pretty short list.  Peyton I doubt would sign with certain teams, the Bengals.  Also he  is 35, 36 or something.  Only a team either on the bubble or already with most of the pieces would be interested.  He is a great QB, still is, but he is not a QB for the future so rebuilding teams are out.

Next whine - is all the people that say Brady rode his defenses to the SB's................ If it wasnt for the defense, Brady would be 4-0 in SB's and have 3 SB MVP's.. face it, it took a miraculous catch, a Buckner like INT drop by Assante Samuels, and a fall in coverage by an injured Ellis Hobbs to lose that game.

I don't think people say that Brady rode his defenses to win the SB's - he cheated to win the SB's & that is what everyone knows including the entire Patriots organization.  (Not sure if you heard, but the Pats got caught.  They admitted it, handed over the tapes, even stated exactly how far back they began cheating, & then all of the tapes were destroyed before they were released for the fans to draw their own conclusions on if it was legit or if the Patriots victories during the cheating period were legit).

If they were cheating again against the Giants, Brady probably would be 4-0 in SB's & have 3 SB MVP's.  Unfortunately, he's 3-0 in SB's in which the Pats admitted to cheating & he's 0-1 in non-cheating Super Bowl games.

Brady is good, he is on a good team, he might win a legit SB before his career is over, but Peyton is the better QB & I think Peyton will resign w/ the Colts

Peyton isn't going anywhere.  He just opened up a brand new Children's Hospital in Indy.  He will resign with the Colts.

wow i can't even believe you just said that. If brady and just about all of the defensive people in the nfl says that manning is better but brady is a better leader even though the patriots teams are always stacked at the offensive and defensive position, just face it manning is a better quarterback the brady
1) Brady always talks nice about Peyton - they are friends... funny, though, you never see Peyton give Brady his props in public...

2) If all the defensive players say that Manning is better.... how was Brady picked the top player in 2011.. by both the players AND the press?

3) The stacked comment just has me ROLLING with laughter.... Peyton has had MULTIPLE Pro Bowlers and possibly a few HOF'ers on his offense ever since he started. Ever hear of Marvin Harrison.. Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clarke, Edgerrin James? Not to mention he has had one of the best OL's in the NFL for YEARS. He never lacks for talent... Can you even name ONE of the receivers that Brady used to win 3 SB's.. and where are they now? Better yet - name me ONE HOF'er that Brady will have, that played his whole career with him. Answer - NONE

The funny thing, is that even though Peyton's teams have been stacked, it took a stout defensive team to win the SB for the Colts. You do realize that your "best" QB was outscored by his FG kicker.. he had 7 INTs and only 3 TDS... in the whole playoff run...

Now lets look at other areas:  Offensive Coordinators.  Manning has had the SAME one running the SAME offense since he started in the league. Brady is on his 5th.

With all those stars on his team...Manning has had one truly excellent season. Brady destroyed his records in one season .. his first with a true HOF calibre receiver..Then had another truyly excellent season last year... with 2 rookies, a cast off from the JETS, Wes Welker, and a few no name receivers that have yet to make their mark.   People complain that Manning had a bad season because of his receivers..that is a joke. Brady has had average receivers at best, his WHOLE career (except for Randy Moss and Wes Welker) , and still excels.. 14-2 in a rebuilding year...with a suspect defense..

Next whine - is all the people that say Brady rode his defenses to the SB's. This again is a joke. Do you realize that in every SB, Brady has had to make a winning drive in the last minutes of the 4th qtr to seal the victory? The vaunted superior NE Defense gave up 2nd half leads in every game... In fact, against the Giants, he drove the team down the field and scored a TD for the lead... after getting mauled by an excellent Giants defensive rush all game. If it wasnt for the defense, Brady would be 4-0 in SB's and have 3 SB MVP's.. face it, it took a miraculous catch, a Buckner like INT drop by Assante Samuels, and a fall in coverage by an injured Ellis Hobbs to lose that game.

Try to look at things objectively. I know you Colt homers cannot, but at least try. Brady, for his career, has excelled with so much less receiving and rushing talent.. and still was the fastest to 100 wins.. even faster then Peyton...
