You know, maybe Brett Favre's not the problem. Yes, he's made a mockery of the notion of a retirement press conference, and yes, he's brought a lot of this on himself by subsequent un-retirement press conferences. But when if finally seems as if he and his Wrangler jeans have moseyed off into the sunset, the media refuse to let him go.

The latest silliness: Howard Eskin of Philadelphia WIP, reported Saturday night that the "Eagles have some interest in Favre once they trade [Kevin] Kolb. Sources told me it's possible. Not sure what Favre thinks."

We don't know what Favre thinks either, but here's what he said last month about the prospects of returning to the NFL: “I don’t want to put my body through that anymore. I’ve been beat up enough.”

Favre has been known to say one thing and do another, but Favre's brother, Scott, has also weighed in on the matter, telling the Biloxi Sun Herald's Al Jones, "I would say there's less than a 1% chance (he would return). He is retired."

A few weeks ago, NFL.com's Gil Brandt, without speaking to Favre or anyone in Favre's camp, suggested that Favre still wants to play, in part because Favre offered to work with Cam Newton. (Yes, we're confused, too.)

We'll repeat what we said at the time: "We actually believe Favre when he said he's been beaten up enough. And if he gets a hankerin' for a comeback, we'd encourage him to watch these."

It's also worth pointing out that one of Eskin's sources told him in June that Ravens coach John Harbaugh didn't want the team to draft cornerback Jimmy Smith. To quote Peter King: "That story about John Harbaugh not wanting Jimmy Smith? Wrong. Totally wrong."

Just something to keep in mind here as well.

Just something to keep in mind here as well. It seems Mr. Eskin wants to be the straw that stirs the drink. None story.

Hey Igglehaslanded, if you live in Philly and pay any attention at all, you would realize the truth behind my statement.  Ask any other Philly sports fan and a majority will say the samething.  Oh, and PHYI (that's FYI according to your logic) I'm a fan of Philly sports, Flyers, Phillies, and Eagles.  My guess is you'll be one of the first callers to Angelo's morning show and on Eskin's afternoon show which, PHYI again, makes you the moron!

What you need to understand is that because of his running & scrambling style, he has a higher probabiltiy of getting injured. Therefore, this might not be a bad move for the Eagles or for Favre as well. Although, I, for one, don't believe the rumors, anymore than I believe the rumors that the lockout will be ended tomorrow, or even this week!

Logically speaking yes, Michael Vick's style should put him at risk and the odds he gets hurt should be greater then most other qb's. But Vick defies all logic because none of the above applies to him.  Vick rarely misses a game because of an injury. Don't ask me how or why but it is what it is..... As for Favre, even if the Eagles wanted to sign Favre as a backup I can't see Favre even thinking about it for a second. Like I said earlier, why would Favre agree to be a backup when he could start for another team?  And why would the Eagles sign a backup for that kind of money when they don't need to?  It doesn't make sense.  Favre would never play for less money then he's used to playing so there will be no discount, I promise you that.  As much as people want to believe Favre is all about winning I've yet to see him play for less then 10 million dollars a season..... it aint gonna happen.

The level of anger and hate expressed here is truly impressive and I guess that it's better directed here than on your significant other, your kid, or your dog.
I like Vick, but he missed a few games and wasn't performing optimally upon his return.  His style of play invites getting banged up where it could easily replay the same this year or worse.  As far as Plan B QBs go, Favre would be on the better side of things rather than the worse side.  Two seasons ago, he was one of the top starters.  Last year he was pooh, but maybe he wasn't as healthy as usual.  If the Eagles pitch him that "hey, Vick might hold up all season where you don't even play/get banged up and you can still collect a nice paycheck or in the alternative, he could be lost after half the season at which point you'll be highly rested and healed where you could all of a sudden find yourself under center on Sundays for a team that has a realistic Super Bowl shot", then I think Brett might bite and it could be a really good situation for all concerned.  Losing Vick could not be as damaging, Favre who already is well-schooled in West Coast offensive football could be rejuvenated and able to lead a top team, and Kafka can have a season of taking notes from a Hall of Famer as opposed to getting only dog-fighting tips from a QB whose more of a free-wheeler than a true system QB.

So what if Favre is a dirty old man that likes to text pictures of his pee-pee while soaking in the hot-tub?  Don't tell me that you never tried to do such.

33037Cuda,
You are a MORON. I would like for you to explain what Brett Favre knowing Mike Holmgren has to do with him possibly joining the Eagles or at least SHUT UP when you don't know what you're talking about.

Red Wings 1969,
Surprised you didn't remark on that in you're comments. Then again, this isn't hockey. (By the way, the Red Wings aren't the Penguins either, no matter how much they wish they could be.)
I understand your comments about Vick not missing many games the last 5 seasons (at least the last 5 seasons which he wasn't in prison--don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Vick fan--got a #7 Falcons jersey & think the Eagles are better with him than with McNugget--but facts are facts, he was in prison).
