McNabb could be headed to Minnesota

So, who wants to take a chance on Redskins QB Donovan McNabb, the guy who was beaten up and benched last year in Washington?

How ‘bout the team who just got finished employing Brett Favre? Yep, it’s the Vikings.

That’s according to CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman, who reports that the Vikings and Redskins have had "intense" conversations about possibly trading McNabb.

McNabb's destination
With rookie Christian Ponder and the inexperienced Joe Webb as the only legit starting QBs on the roster right now – you might have heard that the Seahawks will sign away Tarvaris Jackson from Minnesota – it stands to reason that the Vikings are in need of an experienced signal-caller to help with Ponder’s transition to the NFL.

But considering McNabb is due to make $12.5 million this season, the terms of McNabb’s contract would have to be restructured in order for the Vikings to accept the deal. Especially since, at one point last season, Washington coach Mike Shanahan thought Rex Grossman should be in the game to lead a last-minute drive instead of McNabb.

So, why do it? Well, as ESPN.com’s Kevin Seifert writes, the deal only makes sense if McNabb comes into Minnesota with the understanding that he’d be Ponder’s backup. Otherwise, Seifert writes, “if Ponder isn't ready in Week 1, you wonder if someone like Joe Webb or Tyler Thigpen couldn't hold down the fort until he is. Isn't that a smarter long-term move than trading for a declining player who can't start for a team that plans to have Rex Grossman and John Beck compete for the job this summer? The Vikings drafted Ponder to end their cycle of Band-Aid solutions at quarterback, not to extend it.”

Considering the Redskins gave up two draft picks to get McNabb from the Eagles before the 2010 season, McNabb’s decline in value is pretty startling.

McNabb could be headed to Minnesota

All I know is, that if Down-Again McNabb thinks he will complete another 4th and 26 miracle... he is sadly mistaken.  What could possibly be better than winning the Super Bowl? Donovan McNabb playing for the Vikings!

Go Packers!

McNabb could be headed to Minnesota

Clarification: I should have made clear that I was referring to the Westbrook of his years with McNabb, not the Westbrook of now.

Go Rams!!!!!
Sorry that you have such a low opinion of Brian Westbrook.  But I don't need to take the position that he's in Peterson's class to say that any superiority of Peterson's won't be sufficient to make too much of a difference in McNabb's results, any more than it did for the quarterbacks Peterson's been working with in Minnesota up till now, including Brett Favre.
Go Eagles!!!!

Hey Goober`pile. Please explain why you think that McNabb is Dumb or lazy....I agree that he isn't the most accurate passer in the league but he has always worked hard and been a grat leader with alot of class. He's always been a player to respect and a great ambassador for the game.
I'm a Redskins fan and think that your remarks are ignorant.

Some of you people are so silly that you gave me my "laugh that brings tears to your eyes" for the day.  McNabb is a well experienced QB who will for the FIRST time in his career, have a RB that is elite.  If the Vik's retain Rice and Harvin, Shaincoe will suffice for the TE that McNabb like to have.  Minnesota would be able to develop and remain in contention in a division that they need to step up in to dominate.

Go Rams!!!!!

McNabb!!! WAIT!!!

You tell Minnesota to make sure Sidney Rice doesn't leave before you go along with some crazy trade.  McNabb needs stud receivers, and with Harvin's migraines and Berrian's 3" hands, you (McNabb) need to tell them to keep your receiving weapons intact unless they intend to make a move for a stud receiver (aka Steve Smith, NOT Burress!)

Hard to figure what mode the Vikings are in. Are they in full-blown rebuilding mode or are they trying one last gasp at a title? If they're in rebuilding mode you'd think they'd go after someone less entitled than McNabb, like a Tyler Thigpen (like the article mentions) to fill in for a few games. AD must be getting frutstrated, he'll be washed up by the time they're a contender again. They should trade him for some draft picks, this is totally half a*ssed.
