HasselbeckPosted by Josh Katzowitz

Free agent QB Matt Hasselbeck has a new home, and new Titans coach Mike Munchak has a new signal-caller.

Per CBSSports.com’s Mike Freeman, the 35-year-old Hasselbeck will sign a multi-year deal with the Titans worth a reported $21 million over three years. That means the SeahawksHasselbeck’s former employer who signed Tarvaris Jackson on Tuesday – are officially done with him, and that means Vince Young is out in Tennessee.

It’s also tremendous news for rookie QB Jake Locker. With the retirement of Kerry Collins, Locker was looking at starting in Tennessee with no veteran leadership around him to let him learn.

Now, Hasselbeck probably will take the first-team snaps while Locker gets to learn what it’s like to be an NFL quarterback.

Hasselbeck's new destination
Hasselbeck also will be a good team guy, considering he helped lead the offseason Seahawks workouts, despite knowing there was a good chance he wouldn’t be back in Seattle.

In fact, Freeman thinks Tennessee made such a good move that the Titans are heading for the playoffs. While that’s still going to be a tough bet with the Colts still in the AFC South, it’s an interesting thought. Chances are, unlike last year when Hasselbeck led the 7-9 Seahawks to the postseason, Tennessee actually will have to own a winning record to make the playoffs.

Now, the next step for Tennessee: making sure RB Chris Johnson doesn’t hold out in hopes of getting more money from the Titans.

My question is, Why would Seattle want Jackson? The guy has a terrible arm, and makes bad decisions consistently. Then he argues with the coaches. He is very stubborn. I saw it it Minnesota as he frequently argued with the head coach.

I love the move.  Matt Hasselbeck sat for two years, himself, before struggling to take over the team.  So, he understands what Jake Locker is up against and can help.  Hasselbeck is one of the hardest working QBs in the league, and will be a sharp departure from Vince Young.  The Titans can win right away with a veteran QB, while the rookie gets probably two years of spot duty.  Even at 35, Hasselbeck is a huge upgrade for the Titans and far better than Locker right now.

I think it's a great development for all concerned. Matt gets one more shot with a competitive team and the Titans get a proven vet. They also get a good mentor for Locker, while the Seahawks can go in a new direction. Depending on the FA market, I think the AFC South could be one of the most hotly contested divisions in the NFL this season.

Hasselbeck to sign multi-year deal with Titans

Hasselbeck can be a good fit in Tenn. When he has weapons around him he gets the win and the stats to show he is really a great QB. Matt has always been a starter and knows how to play. He has struggled these past few years in Sea. with horrible old garbage around him. Now he will be able to show once again why he made it to a Super Bowl as he will have a great RB in Chris Johnson and also decent WRs and one great one that just gets in trouble more than he should known as Britt

Hasselback is a Soldier that endured an injured front line and way more pressure than any NFL QB should have to endure.  I expect hiim to shine if he's got a line and doesn't have to be mobile.  Good move for Tennessee.

The real issue

the Real concern with the Titans offence isn't the personel, it's the scheme.
Chris Palmer, the new OC, is a dinosaur. Ten years ago his offence looked simplistic and pedestrian. I doubt his time in the UFL spiced things up at all.
Tht titans needed a bright young creative guy -- somone out of the Green Bay or Philadelphia systems would have been nice. heck I would have even been OK with Martz or Mularky.

but instead we're going to have more of the same Fisher Ball... just without the moustache.

Hasselback sucked during the regular season and had a couple of "miracle" games in the playoffs.
