Goodell, Smith will make back all money they lost

Smith and GoodellPosted by Josh Katzowitz

There was plenty of talk early in the lockout about how NFL commissioner Roger Goodell had reduced his annual salary to $1 and how NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith took it a step further by slashing his take to zero.

While neither guy has to worry about money -- they’ve got plenty of it in their respective bank accounts; Goodell’s salary is around $10 million, while Smith pulls in a hefty $1.8 million per year -- the symbolic move, though a blatant PR move, was probably the right one.

And like many of the teams who are returning money to the employees who had their pay reduced during the work stoppage, Goodell and Smith also will have their salary -- and the back pay that comes with it -- reinstated.

That’s according to the Biz of Football, which reports that Goodell will get $3.7 million returned to him while Smith will pocket the $670,000 that was owed to him.

As for bonuses for the two who helped broker a new CBA and 10 years of labor peace?

According to the story, that’s a distinct possibility.

For Christs sake shut up. The government is secretly trying to sterilize us all as well. Vick went to jail, just like you or I would, now is back in the working world. He paid his duels at the penitentiary, if you dislike him as a person that is cool. However he is a hell of a football player and as long as he keeps his nose clean he should be able to do just that. Your QB has raped two women now, and they werent even hot. Should he be allowed to play ball?

Go back to city of poverty and keep your ignorant opinions to yourself.

Vick for President!!!

It's a joke that Goodell makes 10 million dollars. The man is truly an awful commissioner and needs to be fired. He destroyed the spygate evidence of the Patriots cheating, let a dog killer back into the league and just makes up these new rules to show everyone the true egomaniac that he is. James Harrison, Kevin Burnett and Ray Edwards are right to not like this guy. I don't like him either. Actually, I'm with Harrison, I hate him and will NEVER respect him. Go away Goodell and take QB Dog Killer and Belicheat with you!

Both men promised that they would avoid a lock out or work for free. They, obviously, did NOT avoid a lock out and held true to their word to reduce/eliminate their pay until the CBA was done. Whay do we let them off the hook. Had the deal not been done for another month, they would still be the main brokers. Would we all say they deserve it back then? They did not accomplish what they promised so they had to live up to what they agreed to. I'd like to get paid for failure too ... if they were real men, they would DECLINE the money ... then I would have real respect for them.

They deserve it, along with all the other employees who took cuts.  No revenue was lost for the league and they were clearly in the toughest spot.  All the players hate Goodell, all the owners hate Smith, and a large majority of fans hate them both.  At least pay the guys for all the hard work and grief....

I feel that they deserve the money they will be getting. Those two stepped up and got the deal done. If they didnt step up, then we would of had the lawyers in charge and we would be in court fighting the antitrust suit. kessler soo wanted to blow the NFL up and see how much money he could get out of the owners. They made friends when the spot light was on them and personally got the deal done.. The players may not like the commissioner but he does have the good of the nfl as his priority. Desmith knew if they didnt make the deal with the owners and lost in court he would look like a bufoon and lose his job as union head.. They both could of lost soo much but they are smart guys and knew to make the deal would make their legacy much more positive than blowing up the current NFl we have now...
