The wide-receiver dominos are beginning to fall -- Santonio Holmes agreed to terms on a five-year deal with the Jets, according to multiple reports.

Holmes was considered one of the priority for this offseason for the Jets, especially given that the Washington Redskins were rumored to be pursuing him as well.

However the Redskins made their own noise over the past two days in terms of wideouts, re-signing incumbent No. 1 Santana Moss and then inking Donte Stallworth on Wednesday.

Holmes was a critical addition to the Jets in 2010 and despite missing several games because of suspension, still posted big numbers.

The Jets decision to re-up on Holmes contract means it's unlikely that they'll re-sign Braylon Edwards. It also means that we could see a big run on free-agent wideouts in the near future as other free agents now see what the market Bears out and beginning heavier negotiations with other teams.

"An as far as Pittsburgh, Big Ben was no role model." You're right, Mark Sanchez is a much better role model, he can tell him all the ways to sleep with teenagers and get away with it.

Five years is too long, but think it was the right move by the Jets. Home stepped on the field when it counted.

I realize that Homes has had his issues off the field in the past, but with a players coach like Rex Ryan; my feeling is that players respect him. An as far as Pittsburgh, Big Ben was no role model.

....are you watching the same guy?  Key drops???  How about key catches and touchdowns to win games?

Just4BlkNGLD - where did you get your info that this guy only plays when he is interested? i think you are confusing OFF-field issues with ON-field issues. ON-field means that the player doesnt try when he is in the game or at practice. OFF-field issues are when a player cannot stay away from their former thug friends or strip clubs or baby mommas or drug dealers or night clubs that promote unsavory behavior. Maybe you should see what scouts, teammates, coaches, or anyone else that has actually been around Holmes say about his 'interest' in playing football. ALL REPORTS ARE THE SAME - the guy is a workaholic, shows up to play, shows up to practice, works AMAZING with QBs to get on same page, which would be the complete opposite of what you think. Ill go with what the teammates and coaches say over what your uninformed, pimpled, blogging butt decides to comment on

PIT got rid of him for off field issues, they loved him at Heinz field and the same in the Jets locker room, or they would not have made it a priority to lock this guy up in his prime.

Too may years and too much money for a guy who only plays when he is interested. Did very well in the playoffs and Super Bowl, but disappearred too much during the regular season for this kind of money. He had too many key drops during the season to deserve this kind of money.
Didn't he also drop a TD early in the game against the Steelers?  I don't remember if the Jets kicked a FG or not, but iirc they lost by 5 total, so that changes the complexion of the game considerably.  Maybe the Jets don't try a play action pass on 3rd and long and just don't block to give the Steelers that 7 points at the end of the half too.  Who knows, I just know Holmes sucks and Jets fans are fools.

Pretty gutsy move. It'll either be feast with five years of big numbers, or famine since this guy could easily get suspended for another dumb infraction (has anyone ever looked up %'s for how likely a guy is to be a repeat offender? could be interesting). Either way, they better hope they get the first cuz the second could cripple a team who's offense struggles to score against good Ds with that much money tied up in a guy on the sidelines.

1. YOUREMONEY - who is Bubby Smith?

2. SEPHNX - Holmes is a gamble, but Edwards who faces jail time in Cleveland isn't?
