Report: Weddle to return to Chargers

Free agent S Eric Weddle is returning to the Chargers after all.

Despite trumped-up interest from a number of teams (among them, the Jaguars, Broncos and Colts) who wanted to sign the DB coming off a strong season (96 tackles, two interceptions), the San Diego Union Tribune reports he’s agreed to terms to return to San Diego.

Take this for what it’s worth, but his agent David Canter proclaimed it the richest deal ever for a safety. That would be, according to the Union-Trib, that's a five-year, $40 million deal with $19 million of it guaranteed.

Report: Weddle to return to Chargers

Hey Vincent, take note.  If you play well AND not get in trouble AND be a decent human being, The Chargers  will reward you.....very nicely

Not sure? Watch his play. Run support is all that is left in that Tank. He is more powerful for sure, but he is slower, not the student of the game that Coop is, and more than anything he isn't a Charger that should have been rewarded with a new contract like Coop. I'm not saying he wasn't once a very good player. He was. He just isn't at all the player I would target. Besides, I'm not sold on the defense being installed, it's clear he is being brought in to teach. I hope he is only keeping a starting spot warm for Butler, and the contract he signed is front loaded to cut him at the end of the year. Money would have been better spent keeping Malcolm Floyd and signing any other average ILB. And let the record show I have never been a fan of FA signings. I had a nagging feeling with the Bob Sanders signing to fill a spot on IR, I mean the secondary. The Takeo Spikes signing has me worried the whole front office and coaching staff will be blown up when these guys don't work out. The defense (see #1 in the NFL) wasn't broken. If it ain't broke don't try to fix it. Ron Rivera couldn't be helped. Not losing guys instrumental to your team can be helped.

I love the moves the Chargers are making so far. Now all we need is to get a decent WR and maybe a outside linebacker iike Manny Lawson and we would be SET!

Good signing for the Chargers.  You cannot stress enough the value of continuity.  The Chargers defenses back end looks good.

Go Super CHARGERS!!!

Not sure why you would be upset about signing a veteran Middle LB that is only 2 years older than Cooper and is coming off a triple digit tackle season, who will also provide veteran leadership for guys like Butler and Mouton????

Also if you've noticed, ALL free agent players are getting phat contracts (Hasslebeck, Holmes, Johnson, Cofield, Weddle, etc) due to the new CBA, you know AJ Smith is NOT a free spender so whatever they are paying these guys has to fit into the budget....
