If you thought the Carolina Panthers might sit on their laurels in free agency, well, whoops: less than a day after dropping a $76 million beast of a deal on defensive end Charles Johnson, the Panthers have reportedly signed running back DeAngelo Williams to a five-year, $43-million deal that features $21 million in guaranteed money.

"DeAngelo Williams is back #doubletrouble" Jonathan Stewart, Williams' backfield partner, tweeted shortly after Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network first reported the deal.

Williams, like Johnson, became an unrestricted free agent following the implementation of the new CBA rules and cashed in big-time with his hometown team on Wednesday.

Reports also indicate that the Denver Broncos and Williams' former coach John Fox were in heavy pursuit of the running back, but much like Johnson, it appears the Panthers were willing to pony up and keep him in-town.

The Panthers have also since signed kicker Olindo Mare to a four-year, $12 million deal and signed tight end Ben Hartsock. Yes, it's safe to say they're being a tad active this offseason.

@ rogue Pirates

LOL... greatest teams in football history, thats right HISTORY is the key word.  When was the last time ether of thoes teams was good?? Thats right the 70s, 80s or 90s before Carolina even had a team.. Thats something to be proud of my team was good over a decade ago, man u sound like a Cowboys fan talking about there great playoff runs...lol Atleast the Panthers can put a few good yrs up since the millenium rolled around. And any team in the NFL would love to have that joke of a backfeild as you put it.

The Browns was so great they move to Baltimore.. And have won how many playoff games since coming back in 99??

Bills yea they made 4 str SB to lose all 4 in the 90s, thats right the 90s

And Oakland well I liked Oak-town back in the day but come on they been a shell of themselves since there SB run..

Im not saying Carolina is some great team but they have done more in there short history then some teams. I see you a Steelers fan just be glad yor team playes the Browns and Bengals every yr and its really only a two team race for the Div and that playoff spot..

If you dont know DeAngelo Hall from DeAngelo Williams I would suggest you dont make any more comments pretending to know something about football.  Just keep your ignorant opinions to yourself.
