Dolphins trade for Reggie Bush, signs 2-year deal

Reggie Bush was considered all but certain to be a salary cap casualty for the New Orleans Saints thanks to his $11.8 million salary for 2011 ... until they managed to trade him to the Miami Dolphins on Thursday morning.

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports inititally reported the news (very) early on Thursday morning and the Miami Herald's Jeff Darlington confirmed the news, reporting that 'Fins GM Jeff Ireland wanted to "sleep on it."

Well, it looks like Ireland's awake now, and Bush is Miami-bound, as reports now indicate that Bush signed off on a two-year deal with the Dolphins.

Bush could be motivated to prove that he can indeed succeed as the featured back on a roster, which a move to Miami would likely let him do -- he and Daniel Thomas would theoretically provide a one-two punch in South Beach.

Plus he now get a fresh start -- things got ugly after the Saints decided to draft another former Heisman winner in Mark Ingram and Bush awkwardly tweeted "it's been fun" afterwards.

The running back market now changes dramatically, as the Dolphins were expected to compete for Ahmad Bradshaw and Ronnie Brown. Their decision to trade for Bush should allow inflation on running backs to sink a bit.

lol i think it is very funny for all the saints fans talking crap about us getting bush!!!!!!!!!!!! Now consider this, The saints focus on throwing the ball and miami runs the ball. The saints don't have a clue how to make a runningback at all. We do, if you want to argue with that look at ricky williams, He came from there and did bascially nothing for the saints, he comes to miami leads the league in rushing, so hopefully thanks again saints god bless have a good day

bush #32

How was Reggie Bush rated the 32nd best player in the NFL by the NFL network?  Am I missing something here?  He's just a very good 3rd down back and punt returner.  Nothing more or less.

Some of you are clueless. Reggie Bush had very little to do with New Orleans winning the Super Bowl. He was a bit player on a great team, and accounted for only 5 touchdowns that season. Mario Williams is a great player on a poor team. He doesn't score touchdowns, but he has certainly been a better player at his position than Reggie Bush has been at his position.

Lol... Like Reggie Bush was the reason the Saints won the Super Bowl.  Ever hear of a thing called Drew Brees?  NOLA had talent all over, and Bush was just a footnote.

Yeah, the Texans and Mario Williams have accomplished much since skipping over Bush. Who was the super bowl champion two years ago and who were the running backs on the roster? As long as Gary Kubiack is in Houston they will always be a great offense with no clue on defense. Enjoy another year watching Indy with the division again and watching the playoffs from Disney World. Go Dolphins!

I had hoped it would work out for Reggie to stay in New Orleans. Bush was similar to a Ferrari; it makes no logical sense to own one, and it pales in dependability and functionality when compared to much more useful modes of transportation. It really doesn't even work like it is supposed to a large amount of the time, but, on those occasions that it does, nothing really compares. Thanks for the memories Reggie, and best of luck to you in Miami.

Not a Miami fan BUT good move for them IF they sign a feature back. Bush will not hold up under feature back status....Great role player.
