Dolphins trade for Reggie Bush, signs 2-year deal

Reggie Bush was considered all but certain to be a salary cap casualty for the New Orleans Saints thanks to his $11.8 million salary for 2011 ... until they managed to trade him to the Miami Dolphins on Thursday morning.

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports inititally reported the news (very) early on Thursday morning and the Miami Herald's Jeff Darlington confirmed the news, reporting that 'Fins GM Jeff Ireland wanted to "sleep on it."

Well, it looks like Ireland's awake now, and Bush is Miami-bound, as reports now indicate that Bush signed off on a two-year deal with the Dolphins.

Bush could be motivated to prove that he can indeed succeed as the featured back on a roster, which a move to Miami would likely let him do -- he and Daniel Thomas would theoretically provide a one-two punch in South Beach.

Plus he now get a fresh start -- things got ugly after the Saints decided to draft another former Heisman winner in Mark Ingram and Bush awkwardly tweeted "it's been fun" afterwards.

The running back market now changes dramatically, as the Dolphins were expected to compete for Ahmad Bradshaw and Ronnie Brown. Their decision to trade for Bush should allow inflation on running backs to sink a bit.

They've drafted Jake Long, Vontae Davis, Sean Smith, Chris Clemons, Brian Hartline, and Koa Misi. They also signed Cameron Wake and Karlos Dansby, and traded for Brandon Marshall. They're not doing THAT bad...

Bush helped the Saints win a Super Bowl. I'm sure they're OK with their choice. Mario Williams has helped the Texans win what exactly?

Somewhere, the Houston Texans are walking around with one of those "I told you so" smiles. How is the humble pie tasting for all of you who cried "WTF are they doing!" when Houston skipped over Bush.

Good move by the Saints to get something in return for Bush!

He probably made more money playing for USC then what he will make playing for the Dolphins. Bush has been a head case every since he came to the NFL.

Not sure how you can say you "like the Bush signing" and then say he "overhyped". Explain that one to me.

Anyone hear the terms of the 2-year deal? I'd love to see what kind of a pay cut Reggie Bush had to take to stay in football. I'm guessing $9 million for 2 years, with additional incentives for 12 TDs, 1,000 yards, or a Pro Bowl nod.

I have very little faith in the Dolphins organization to read and acquire talent. So far, every single free-agent and draft pick Ireland and this regime has gone after has performed horribly to mediocre. Everyone they've gone after has underperformed. Aside from the can't-miss #1 overall selection of Jake Long, every player acquired has not met expectations.

I do like the Bush signing and I'll like it even more if they add Orton to the mix, but speaking strictly from an evaluation angle, this regime has got nothing done. No reason to think that overhyped Reggie Bush will be anything different. If he couldn't realize his full potential playing with Brees and under the tutelage of Sean Payton, what the hell is Henne/Sparano gonna do with the guy?

Stats don't lie so i agree with you on that but what reggie did at USC got NOTHING to do with his pro performance.
