Whether the Colts have a chance to compete for another Super Bowl isn’t necessarily dictated by Indianapolis’ offense. With QB Peyton Manning and his ability to make any receiver look like an All-Pro, the ability for the team to score points is rarely in question.

For Indianapolis to compete, the Colts defense has to be tenacious and strong. Going forward, Indianapolis will be fine on the defensive line -- ends Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney are still pretty scary -- but oft-injured, yet very-talented safety Bob Sanders is gone to the Chargers.

And now, making the Colts defense just a little bit weaker, LB Clint Session has signed a five-year, $30 million ($11.5 million guaranteed) deal with the Jaguars, writes NFL.com’s Jason LaCanfora (via the Indianapolis Star).

He’s coming off a season in which he played only five games due to injury, but when he’s on the field, he can be a force -- he combined for 197 tackles in 2008-09 and was playing awfully well before injuries cut short his 2010 season.

And lest you forget, Session is a tough, tough man.

After breaking his forearm and dislocating his elbow, Session left the game briefly and then returned in the second half (!) to play well. Ultimately, the injury ended his season, but that’s a pretty strong mindset for a guy who now will go to a division rival and try, at least twice a year, to stop the Colts offense from advancing to the postseason.

Clint Session leaves Indy for Jaguars

losing Clint is a big bummer for us. However...

I have to laugh when I hear all the talk that the Jaguars fans a well as other team fans spew every year when free agent signings are taking place.

OK, so you got another good LB from the Colts. Even though you dogged our defense and talked smack about our defense every chance you got last year, and in previous years, now you are all excited because you grabbed a good player from the Colts in free agency.

Kudos to your team for recognizing talent, and it is a shame that Clint Sessions will no longer be with the Indianapolis Colts. I am one fan who is pretty upset by the entire situation.

This being said...

Every season the Indianapolis Colts put together a quality team and thus far, Jacksonville Jaguars have yet to do much other than annoy us and talk smack and attempt to de-throne the actual class of the division, the Indianapolis Colts.

Good Luck Jacksonville, so far the Tennesee Titans are the only squad to take the division title other than the Colts, so as of right now, all you can do is wish and pray, and hope and dream to one day be as good a franchise as the one in Indy.

I personally feel pretty good about our current line-up...

Jags > Colts

good pickup for jacksonville---their D is good enough to win that weak division.

The Jags just turned a major weakness into a major strength in a 3 days. Smith, Posluszny, and Session give them one of the best LB units in the NFL. (Morrison and Durant are now as good as gone). Only things left to do are sign a Safety (which we desperately need) and a veteran WR to help with the development of Thomas and Hill.

I love that Jax is finally fixing their LB problem.  Session, along with Posluzny will be a big boost I think. Now we just need to re-sign Morrison, grab a safety or corner in FA, and we'll be much improved!
Agreed. While New England's free agent signings may be bigger news, the Jags are quietly and efficiently rebuilding. The AFC South is up for grabs this year -- except for my Titans. Frown

I knew this was coming. Mathis might hold out for more money and may walk also. They should have let Gonzales go and tried to keep Session.

Obviously you dont really know Jags football.  Morrison is not needed to re-sign in that we already have an outside LB by the name of Daryl Smith who is arguably just as good if not better than Pos and Session.  I will agree though that we need significant secondary help.  Hopefully a quality safety and/or a CB is on the way soon.  Go Jags!!
