It was just a few hours ago when we told you that the Bears had put TE Greg Olsen on the trading block, as agent Drew Rosenhaus tweeted that Chicago was willing to be very “reasonable” in who they got for swapping Olsen.

The Panthers have taken the Bears up on the deal.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Olsen is on his way to Carolina in exchange for a player (not likely named Steve Smith) and for an undisclosed draft pick.

Olsen caught 41 passes last year for 404 yards and five touchdowns, and he’ll join a crowded tight end group in Carolina with Jeremy Shockey and Ben Hartsock already on the roster.

That's what Jay Cutler needs: less weapons.

TE Olsen traded to Panthers for draft pick

The Bears don't seem to make a whole lot of sense right now. What weapons have you stockpiled for the punk, Jay Cutler? He's already a tantrum waiting to happen... Just wait till the dropped balls start mounting up by week three. He'll explode after dozens of three-and-out drives, as if it were management's fault. Oh wait, they dumped his reliable over-the-middle TE. Oops. And to a team that didn't even really need a tight end.

TE Olsen traded to Panthers for draft pick

This is puzzling...  Why trade the one receiver on the roster that can create matchup problems and get nothing but a 3rd round pick?  I know he doesn't fit Martz scheme, but they just cut Manumaleuna, who was supposed to know the system.  Where is the No. 1 receiver?  To follow Martz system you need some sort of 3WR set - Bruce, Holt and Zahir-Hakim combo...  and an accurate passer... and an everydown back that can be a threat out of the backfield.  Forte fits that mold, but he is no Marshall Faulk.

1 out of 5 is bad right?  Plus the O-Line is gonna be changing again..  The defense is getting older, but they will have to carry the team again this year.  Typical Bears football... guh!

TE Olsen traded to Panthers for draft pick

It's about time the bears decided to get a professional management team in place. Really Virginia, Is this what your dad had in mind for the team? Where's the fire? George was tight with money too , but at least he had a clue about player worth and ability This management team is an embarrassment. What a bunch of wallflowers

WTF is Carolina thinking? Who do they think is going to get the ball to these guys? Clausen?Newton?
Yup.  Two long-held tenets of quarterback development - give him a solid run game and give them a tight end who can be his safety valve.  Makes good sense to get grab a tight ends who can catch and run.

While Olsen didn't do a whole lot with the Bears, does it make sense to trade a weapon if you don't have a replacement?

Unlike some Bears fans I'm not thrilled to see him gone.  I realize that Martz' system doesn't utilize the TE as a receiver, but the Bears should be adding receivers ........ not shedding them.

TE Olsen traded to Panthers for draft pick

WTF are the Bears doing and for that matter, WTF is Carolina thinking? Who do they think is going to get the ball to these guys? Clausen?Newton? The defense's in the NFC South wil have career weekends against maybe one of the beiggest waste of talent at the skill positions I have ever seen. Steve Smith, Olsen, D Williams, J Stewart, Shockey, all studs, playing behind an awful offensive line and 2 QB's with .8 of a seasons experience and a shortened mini camp and preseason. They will be challenging the Bungals for worst record this year.

Bad idea in getting rid of one off the better players on the offense unfortunatly the Bears don't have a sure thing with the draft pick.

Olsen was a solid weapon, but not a Mike Martz system guy. Martz wants to spread the field with retreads players, and he's never had much use for the TE position as a receiver. If he scheme works with the Bears, he will be a genius. If it fails, it will be his last big market job as a coordinator. Time is running out for Martz.

And guess what... Matt Forte is talking about holding out now. Hmm.
