Rex had Adam Sandler call Nnamdi Asomugha

Of all the insanity that's gone down this week, one thing truly stands out in a comical way: during the hot pursuit of Nnamdi Asomugha, Rex Ryan had noted Jets fan Adam Sandler ring up the free-agent cornerback and try to sell him on joining New York.

That's according to Mike Lombardi of the NFL Network (via Rich Eisen) and, um, I guess it didn't work?

I respect the move, because busting out celebrities is always a good way to woo people into doing something. But as Clark Judge and I discussed earlier on Friday, Nnamdi's a high-brow-type fella who liked the idea of coming to New York because it was a cultural apex.

Not because Sandler is a fan of the Jets. And, is Adam Sandler really the most famous Jets fan that Ryan could call on?

Or is Nnamdi like a huge fan of all the B-list movies he's been firing out lately? Or did Sandler ring him up and bust out some old-school humor by offering to give him "a dollar twenty-five, sir"?

We may never know. (Although it stands to reason that Rex will probably tell us at some point, actually.)

But it does seem safe to say that Nnamdi flipped a classic Sandler line -- "the price is wrong ..." -- on the actor.

No, I would not have gotten his name right because its hard to say but bet your ass I know who we were talking about.  If he weren't A) IN OAKLAND which has two things working against it: bad and on the West Coast and B) Had an easier name to say like say Ray Lewis or Adrian Peterson he'd be a household name.

Nice mention of Toolbooth Willy there, Brinson! BTW Just Go With It, is NOT a B-list movie, it was quite hilarious, not to mention Brooklyn Decker in a 2piece!! WINNING!

I do admit to yanking "irregardless"'s a chain a bit. He's an easy mark. I do think Tramon Williams is among the best though. He's at least #3.

Admittedly, I was yanking "irregardless"'s chain a bit. And, of course, on that putz, it worked like a charm. I do think Tramon Williams is among the best though. He's #3 at least.

@ packsoldier - I am a HUGE packer fan...  But you are out of your MIND if you really believe Tramon Williams is the best CB in football.  Come on bro...  I know it's hard to be objective when you're a homer and we all watched Tramon play great down the stretch, but BEST CB in football?  Take it down a notch.  GO PACK GO!!!

You have to understand the bandwagon defamation contingent has struck your fan base. They like to think they are the "Anonymous" of the message board. Multiple ID trolls that spam the board with the most incredibly stupid comments to debase a team.

For the Steelers they are known as NFL Solomon, Steellithium, SteelerKing, SteelPlatoon (likely this manifestation) etc...

The Packers now have Packerfan15 or something, Finley_88, this guy, Luca, etc...

These same 4 or 5 Bandwagon fans do this because they were banned for trolling sometime back in the mass banning, and feel they are promoting chaos...

It goes with the territory, some may even do it just because they believe it brings validity to their have to say something posts.

So if I would have asked you to name a corner for the Raiders back in March, you would have rattled his name off in less than 3 seconds?  What if I asked you to name one of the linbackers for the Ravens?  How about a running back for the Vikings?

Yes, yes and yes...

Now I would not have been able to spell it without looking Nnamdi Asomugha up mind you, but I surely could have spelled Stanford Routt or Chris Johnson to compensate. Ray Lewis ring a bell? Adrian Peterson anyone? Or did you intend for it to be the lesser obvious players like Terrell Suggs, which really isn't any less obvious because the Raven LBs are kind of good and all. I could have went with Toby Gerhart for Vikings RB, because he is such an oddity at tailback because he's white and looks more like a fullback and all...

My point here is that he is not great, he's not a household name - he's just the best free agent available.

He is indeed a great CB, he is indeed a household name, if you watch football. If you don't, no, he isn't the messiah and known to the entire world.

For some reason, he's getting hyped like he is a linebacker for the Ravens or a running back for the Vikes.

Because he is just as good as Ray Lewis (with respect to their positions) and better than Adrian Peterson (with respect to their positions).

Uh, what were there names???

Which ones?

If you didn't know who Nnamdi Asomugha was before this year my guess is Pro Football isn't your thing. Try some other sport.
