Plaxico breakfasts with Steelers

BurressPosted by Josh Katzowitz

Since free agent Plaxico Burress was released from prison, there has been no shortage of rumors of where the 34-year-old ultimately could resume his career.

Would it be his old team, the Giants? Apparently, they’re interested. The Bears? Not so much. The Eagles? Michael Vick certainly wouldn’t mind that. The Jets? Sounds like they might take a shot at him.

Well, what about the Steelers? If Burress’ eating habits are any indication, it sounds like Pittsburgh is a real player to land Burress.

According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette’s Ed Bouchette, Burress had breakfast with Steelers coach Mike Tomlin on Saturday morning. Burress also met with team president Art Rooney and GM Kevin Colbert, who drafted Burress in 2000 (in case you forgot, Burress played his first five seasons in the league with the Steelers).

Said Colbert to reporters: “Obviously he's interested. His agent is interested and we're interested, so where it goes we'll find out.”

Colbert said he didn’t know how much money Burress would command, but if his expectations aren’t too high -- and coming off his prison stint, I don’t know why they would be -- Burress could be a nice fit to build some depth at the WR position.

All of this depends on how much solid football Burress actually has left in his body. Which, of course, nobody knows at this point.

I for one like this move cause Steelers have been missing height on the WR side since he left. I think with his presence on the field can draw some coverage to free Ward or Wallace or so on underneath. Yes his past is tainted as well as 75% of the players out there, but if we can all except Vick back in the league which in my mind did alot worst then Burress. Give Burress his dues and let him rectify his name. Its possible that he will not be in the shape he was before but still think he can do much. Bottom line gives Ben a big target to look for again. Go STEELERS!!!!!

If we sign him, we will have the strongest receiving corp in the league with 5 starting receivers. We have the fastest guy in Wallace. The best possesion receiver in the game in Ward as well as the best blocker. We have 2 awesome second year guys in Sanders and Brown and then could add Burress to that . Go get him. We are young on offense and have a top 5 center and just drafted 2 O-linemen. Bring it on.

Apparently you missed the part where I said guilty when the case was closed.  His case was legally closed when he went to anger management and the charges were dropped.  So technically he isn't a "criminal," though I'm with you that he is basically in that boat.  But, and not to be an ass about this, try to read for comprehension and take in every statement before jumping to a response.  It usually helps.  But from what I've seen you're among the people on these boards who actually have a clue, so it's not a biggie.

But for the record, charges with a lesser plea don't equate to a gulty plea (or admission of guilt) for that charge.  Then again, all of these idiots who call Ben "Rapelesberger" even when he wasn't even charged likely won't understand that.

"Seriously.  Read what he said.  How is it anti-American?"

It's anti-American in EVERY way.  Stop wearing your homer blinders.  He suggested that the American government was the real perpetrators of 9/11.  He defended the worst anti-American terrorist ever known.  Remind me how it's NOT anti-american.  You would just defend anything any Steeler says.  That's why you are an idiot.

'll give you dumb (see Ben Roethlisberger and James Harrison), but criminals?

Actually yes, James Harrison is a criminal.  He was charged with domestic violence and the charges were dropped because he underwent anger management.  That is clearly an admission of guilt.  So stupid, yes, and criminal, yes.

--   The Rooney's and Tomlin as well as Colbert, will not do this deal IF it isn't in the BEST interest of the Steeler's.... all these comments about not bringing him back b/c of the gun issue, let's face it... ANY player at ANY time can and prob will at some point do stupid things (i.e.- Harrison's comments, Ward's DUI, comments from Mendenhall, Roesthlisberger issues)  But let's face, we could care less what they do off the field, AS LONG AS, it doesn't take anything away from theie ON-FIELD play.... the STEELERS Will handle the off field issues, but I believe this could be a good fit for the Steelers... Ward isn't getting younger, we let Randel El go, and Wallace needs another player to take the double coverage off of him...  I say let's do it!!!!!

I'll give you dumb (see Ben Roethlisberger and James Harrison), but criminals?  Look up the numbers genius.  Nearly every Steeler who has actually been convicted of a crime (hence the term "criminal"), and the case is closed, has been released from the team.

And as for anti-American, maybe read what Mendenhall actually said.  Sorry that he isn't Toby Keith out there singing some crap country song about "Killun all em A-Rabs for 'Merica and drinkin' sum ice cold Bud and watchin' me sum Nascurrr."

Seriously.  Read what he said.  How is it anti-American?
