Bears land Marion Barber, Amobi Okoye

It took a couple days, but the Bears have finally gotten going in free agency.

Already, they had signed former Cowboys WR Roy Williams and taken a chance on former Jets LB Vernon Gholston, and Saturday night, the team added more pieces, announcing that it’s come to terms with former Cowboys RB Marion Barber and former Texans DT Amobi Okoye.

The team said Okoye’s contract is a one-year deal, while NFL.com’s Jason LaCanfora writes Barber’s contract is for two years and $5 million.

Considering Bears RB Matt Forte isn’t happy right now and has threatened to hold out because he’s slated to make only $550,000 in base salary this year -- he has reported, by the way -- Chicago’s move seems like one that could help change Forte’s attitude. As Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune pointed out, you also have to wonder about Chester Taylor's future with the organization.

Barber had a hard time staying healthy in Dallas, and earlier this week, he was dropped in favor of rookie DeMarco Murray. Meanwhile, Okoye, a former first-round pick, hasn’t been all that productive since he recorded 5 ½ sacks in his 2007 rookie season, recording just 5 ½ sacks since then.

Now, both get a chance to rejuvenate their careers in Chicago.

Make that one playoff win since 1958!!! WOW!!! Worse than I even knew! My mistake on year of only playoff win. It was 1991.

Meanwhile DA BEARS over that same period of time have the following postseason wins :

Playoffs = 9 (3 in the last five years)

Championship = 1 (1963)

Superbowl = 1 (1985) (And a Superbowl apperance in 2006)

I meant WIN in the playoffs! Something they only did once since 1993! OUCH!

Sure a lot of crap from a fan of a team that has been bad for so long, that I believe the great Barry Sanders wishes he had played for DA BEARS!!! Then he would have had a chance to make the playoffs!

lol, I love it...can't wait for the Owen 16 coaches to reunite with Roy. Now, signing Barber will hopefully push Forte over the holdout edge, and there's nothing a Lions fan could love more than turmoil in the enemy camps. BTW, Bears fans, that WAS a TD for Calvin, and you still have a quitter for a QB...

Christian Okoye had the best nickname of all time. The Nigerian Nightmare!!!! They just don't make names like they used too.

They have been saying that about Roy Williams every year, so the only thing that time will tell is that HE IS A BUM!!!!!  BUT in Chicago with the Starting WR's you have his sorry tail just might be an upgrade and that's sad.  Good Luck next year brother.

This is a good move for both teams. Cowboys have a less crowded backfield and the Bears get someone to help around the goal line.Bears definitely need Forte but certainly don't need Taylor. You can never have enough defense and any help Peppers gets will be rewarded. Forte has been key for the Bears and will get paid. Angelo has made some dumb moves in the past but this will get settled.
