Vonta Leach signs deal; Rice tweets happily

FB Vonta Leach, regarded by many as the best lead blocker in the game, has signed a three-year deal worth $11 million with the Ravens, eschewing the Texans in the process, and making Baltimore RB Ray Rice a happy man.

That’s according to the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain, who reports that the Texans wanted to keep Leach but weren’t willing to put out as much money as the Ravens.

Combined with the re-signing of OL Marshal Yanda, the addition of Leach should help a Ravens running game that slipped to 14th last season (it was No. 5 in 2009 and No. 4 in 2008).

Almost immediately after the news, Rice sent a tweet to Leach that read, “Let the fun begin.”

The rest of the AFC North might beg to differ.

Leach is an azz-kickin' FB. He'll help both Rice & Flacco.

Leach is going to help Ray Ray in a huge way. Baltimore will finally start playing tough ground and pound running offense to match their defense. Now they're able to focus on getting the ball into the end zone and not on who's going to carry the rock. Defenses will have to commit on picking up Vonta and getting to Rice. Before, they just had to concern themselves with Rice.
This might even be a better pick up for Flacco. He'll have a little more time to release.
... ... ... oooooooohhhooooo... oooo  I LLLoooooooove this pick up by the Ravens. Now I see Rice as a top 3 back by seasons end.
Either way, GO PACKERS!!!

I'll miss Heap, but note that Todd get's hurt each year, misses up to half the season, and the Ravens now have two 2nd year TE's who are near Heap in pass-catching ability, though not as good blockers as Heap in Dickson and Pitta.

So, how much does this hurt A. Foster?  Looks like AP is now the undisputed #1 pick in FF drafts.

VL is a "class act" and a "goodfit" for the Ravens.  They will regret parting with Heap who is a "class act" and now a "good fit" for the Cards!
