Benson re-signs with Bengals

With RB Cedric Benson looking for a big payday, the Bengals instead had most of the leverage after Benson was arrested yet again for alleged assault. And instead of his long-term contract, the Bengals offered him a one-year deal that was accepted today.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Joe Reedy, the deal is worth $3 million with incentives that could push the worth up to $5 million.

But after his latest arrest -- at some point, he’s going to have to serve a suspension, right? -- his value dropped. In fact, the Bengals reportedly were looking at other RBs, including Ahmad Bradshaw. But it was expected the Bengals would sign Benson anyway.

Said Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis: “I’m happy to have Ced back.”

And Benson, I imagine, is happy to have a job again.

Benson re-signs with Bengals

"I don't have a problem with my team re-signing Cedric Benson. His value has fallen to the point of affordability. This is a good deal for Cincinnati. If Bill Belichek and the Patriots got him for 3 million, everyone would be singing the praises of this signing. But it's the Bengals, so everyone assumes it's a crummy deal. $3 million is not a lot for a feature back these days, even one who will likely have to sit a game to comply with Emperor Roger's whim."

I agree he is a steal at 3 million...if he stays out of jail....question is can Marvin Lewis keep him out of jail.  Belichick has a track record with "troubled" stars.  I am not even sure how much longer Marvin Lewis will be able to keep hs job.  If he can't keep Ced on the field, he might not last the year.  He doesn't have a starting QB, he doesn't have a star WR, he has about half his team with court dates from incidents this offseason.  Things aren't looking good in Cincy, and Marvin is going down with the ship.

"3 million is not alot for a feature back"....true enough except the fact that this is no feature back.  Saving up his bail money!

Benson re-signs with Bengals

just when you thought they turned the corner (dumping T.O. and Stinko) the Bungles revert to form--souldnt resist at least one loser on the field--and i am sure this cemented little palmers plans to stay away from cicitucky this season.  way to go starvin marvin and mike brown--leave a quality guy retire and bring back a joke like this.  wonder how many yards he will get w/o palmer and the rest of the offense--good luck gradkowski--hope the new cba cover your future injuries.

Cedric Benson's value was already low -  after a couple of run-ins with the "MAN".  Remember the boating incident in Texas c'mon that wasn't long ago either.  If I am the Bengals I go get Ced a driver and restrict his interstate movement.  Keep him out of Texas cause trouble finds this man - or he is the trouble.  Look he got another hefty check for one year -  I don't beleive he will change his spots.  I hope he has changed his ways but if someone gave me 3 million I'd probably think they like me just the way I am.

benson value has dropped alot, won t draft him this year.
He's a bum on a crappy team. There was no real need to ever consider drafting him to begin with. Only draft him if you're doing an all-time college football fantasy draft. Ced was actually pretty good then.
