Orton running away with Broncos QB competition

All offseason long, two things about the Broncos have been assumed. One, that Kyle Orton will be traded at some point. And two, that Tim Tebow will just take over and run the Denver offense and succeed like he did at Florida.

OK, we didn't all assume that -- some of us knew John Fox wouldn't want a youngster like Tebow running his offense. But Denver seemed headed in that direction anyway.

One problem: Tebow's getting absolutely torched by Orton thus far in camp.

Like, to the point where Orton is the only guy getting reps with the No. 1 offense, according to the Denver Post's Mike Klis.

"[Tebow] and Brady Quinn are neck and neck in the battle for the No. 2 quarterback spot," Klis wrote Monday.
Orton's Offseason

Jim Trotter of Sports Illustrated, also dispatched to Denver's camp, writes that Orton has "clearly separated himself" from Tebow and Quinn, though he notes that it's not out of the realm of possibility that Tebow could still wind up starting.

And it's not -- Denver has a lot invested in him, would probably like to see him succeed (or at least succeed enough to trade him), and clearly doesn't see Orton as the answer (given that they put him on the block).

But as I said a few weeks ago, this is a Fox-run team and expecting to see Tebow take over for a vet like Orton is kind of a long-shot.

Especially when there's such a clear-cut talent discrepancy between the two on the field.

Orton running away with Broncos QB competition

Orton played very well? And you call me stupid? Youre absolutely right, ignorance is bliss. A qb that plays very well puts his team in the end zone, Orton was pathetic in that regard....all he did for 6 games was move the chains between the 20's. but you sound like the kind of moronic fan that's all about individual stats. Oh yeah, Orton played so well the last 2 years according to mr moron, that nobody wanted him when the broncos put him on the trading block. For such a supposed bronco hater, you sure seem to portray yourself as the all knowing expert when it comes to the broncs. Nice try dimwit.

Of course he is.  Orton's a qb, Timmy's a fullback.  Let him be the next Peyton Hillis, except the Broncos actually keep him.  And used up a first round draft choce on him.  And make him the highest paid fullback in the league.  Great job, McDaniels!

Thanks for being the all knowing expert. The run game may help qb's, but that's only if you have a good running game. With Sad Sack Orton behind center, defenses will load up on the run until it's an obvious passing down, then they'll send the blitz. Orton, fleet of foot as he is, will duck his head and take the sack, that or he'll try to thread the needle between 2-3 defenders. He's about as effective a QB as you are an expert.
Being a Broncos hater, I am glad they have such stupid fans. What do you think opposing teams did for the past 2 years? They rushed the passer, because they knew there was no running game. And yet, Orton played very well, landing in the top 10 in passing both years, and leading the league for much of last year. It takes a special kind of willful ignorance not to see this. Enjoy it; I hear it's bliss.

You can have Orton, people like you tend to stick together anyway. I'll take Tebow.

Fans getting excited only lasts about 2 losses worth, they would lose a lot more in lost fan attendance than 9 million if they can't win more than 4.
