Five teams interested in Osi Umenyiora trade?

The Giants gave Osi Umenyiora's permission to seek a trade recently. There's just one problem: New York wants a first-rounder in return for Osi, which might make it kind of tough to move him.

Still, there's interest in the defensive end -- Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports that there are five teams that have "expressed some level of interest" in acquiring Osi's services.

Those teams? The Ravens, Rams, Chargers, Seahawks, and Broncos.

The Rams are a logical fit because their head coach, Steve Spagnuolo, once worked with Umenyiora when he was the defensive coordinator for the Giants. (They had a little success there too, if you recall Super Bowl XLII.)

And Ravens fans wouldn't be upset with Osi either -- in an informal poll by our friend Bob Haynie of 105.7 the Fan in Baltimore shows nearly half of the folks asked would be willing to give up a No. 1 for Umenyiora.

Don't count on anyone doing that, though, because first-round picks just recently got a significant bump in value thanks to the new CBA rules. They're no longer the big-money risks that they once were, and giving up a first rounder for a guy who's going to demand a new contract once he lands in a new situation isn't an ideal scenario.

Indeed, Osi's agent, Tony Agone, told CBSSports.com's Clark Judge on Tuesday morning that he finds the notion of being forced to get a first-rounder in return a "rather dubious situation."

Still, Osi's a relatively young (29) and highly-talented defensive end who holds not just the Giants record for most sacks in a game (six) but also the NFL record for most forced fumbles in a season (10). He's made two Pro Bowls and he's helped anchor a Super-Bowl winning defensive line.

There's a market for him, but the Giants are going to need to lower their asking price -- perhaps a second- or third-round pick? -- before he gets moved.

There's no way the Giants are getting a 1st round pick for Osi, who has all kind of injuries and surgeries over the past few years. He's productive when he's healthy but who knows how long he's going to hold up. If they lowered the asking price to a 2nd or 3rd round pick they might be able to do business. Then you have to sign him to a new contract so thats another obsticle

Five teams interested in Osi Umenyiora trade?

As a KC Chiefs fan I do not want to see Osi in a Donkey uniform. I am really wondering if the G-men aren't simpl trying to get a base-line of his worth. I also wonder how he'd fit in Arrowhead. With Romeo working him I see really good things that could happen. Tamba is now getting credit for being the stud player he's always been in spite of the negative attitudes regarding his play. He's not as flamboyant as Jared but his play is on a par at the very least. Does the idea of Tamba, Dorsey, Osi and Justin make me feel good about KC knowing the schedule makers took out some childish petty grudge against us. Our corners are good enough and we have depth there and Osi's presence might force some bad decisions with the ball. A number 1 pick is a little steep and trading him to the Chiefs would mean they'd see him fewer times. That ought to count for something, right? Let's talk deal.

@redwings: Because they're not going to get a full, healthy Osi's production if he's freaking out over this contract thing. It's not about who is right and who is wrong. It's about getting what you can out of a bad situation.

Personally, I think the Seahawks would be a great fit.  We could trade J. Carlson (TE) and 3rd pick for Osi.  Who's the Giants TE now that BOSS signed with Oakland?  Heck, instead of a 3rd, we could include R. Brock who just signed a one year deal w/Hawks and came of 2010 with personal high of 9 sacks.
