Rex Ryan challenges rest of league to beat Pats

It's officially football season but it doesn't quite feel like it until Jets head coach Rex Ryan says something for the sole purpose of getting a rise out of people. (Also acceptable: proclaiming that it's snack time. Requisite naughty language alert on the video evidence.)

Well, now it feels like football season because -- you guessed it -- Ryan had some thoughts on AFC East rival New England. Relatively speaking, the comments were innocuous enough (not even Rodney Harrison would be able to twist Ryan's words into motivational fodder … we think), but media and fans have a knack for blowing things out of proportion. We suspect this will be no different.

When asked by reporters Monday if the Jets are the favorite to win the division, Ryan spoke frankly.

"In my mind. I don’t know about everybody else’s. The first year I got in we were supposed to win six games or five games or four games. I don’t know what the experts say, I just know what I believe in my heart and that’s that this is going to be our year. Again, I think we have to find somebody out there to beat New England besides us, and I think that would help. Anybody out there that wants to sign up for it? Are you good enough as a team to beat the New England Patriots. Forget about us, are you good enough to go out and beat the New England Patriots? I’m challenging the league."

Like we said, hardly inflammatory stuff. But Boston's WEEI labeled it an "ultimatum," and the Boston Herald called it a "new approach to tweaking the Patriots."

But fret not. Ryan did have some (sorta) laudatory words for new Pats' receiver Chad Ochocinco.

"I’ve always said this, when it was Chad Johnson, we could never stop him, but when it was Chad Ochocinco, I’ve been more successful. So I hope he doesn’t change his name back. I have a great deal of respect for him. He’s a tremendous player. I mean an absolute tremendous player, going along with [Tom] Brady and the guys, [Wes] Welker and all those guys. I’m glad we have the corners we have."

See? It could've been much worse, right?

Yet another genius Steeler fan. It's real simple, listen closely now. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are not sex offenders/rapists. Thrown under the bus ....Please.He should have been thrown in jail.

Don't get the dynasty thing.  Isn't your dynasty dead when you don't win a championship for 6 years? All of those players except Brady are gone. Forget the Jets, the rest of the league is not intimidated by the Pats either until they start showing it in the post-season.

It kills me how everyone throws Ben under the bus.. Everyone is so big on Brady and Manning which is well deserved but the perception is that Ben is not as good of a QB because he is not as precise or as accurate throwing the ball as Manning or Brady or even now the new kid on the block Rodgers.  Ben has more rings than Manning, he has the same amount of rings as Brady and he has been to the same amount of super bowls since 05 than both of them combined. He transformed a traditionally running oriented team to one of the top passing teams in the league! Open your eyes people. It may seem bias as i am a steeler fan, but the numbers speak for themselves. Rex if your only concern is the patriots than you have issues. AFC is too strong for you to only be worrying about the patriots.

Jets>>> always the bridesmaid
That's funny coming from a guy whose team's dynasty should have an asterisk next to it.  Also, remember that before the Pats got waylayed by the Bears in the biggest beatdown in Super Bowl history (at the time), the Jets already owned a ring.  Amazingly, it wasn't until a certain taping incident happened that the Patriots won a Super Bowl.  You call it a dead issue, but as long as you Patriot homer/bandwagon jumpers keep calling your team a dynasty and talking smack to teams who haven't won in years, the video tape issue will never die.

Why must you Patriot fans make me bring up good qualities about the Jets?  It makes me hate your team that much more.

Hey Patriotbest, the video is not a dead issue. The Pats got busted and they're cheaters. Period.
Just because they haven't been caught lately doesn't mean they still don't cheat.

Anyway, let's make it a dead issue.

Rex's comments were hilarious - and spot on. The Jets beat your ass two out of three, and the most important one was when it counted most.
So he's joking that it would be a lot easier if somebody else could beat them.
Haha, think about it, if the Jets got to play the Pats all 16 games the Jets would go 11-5. Sweet.

Always a bridesmaid? Hmmm. Not always. The Pats weren't even at the wedding.
Have fun with Ocho Stinko. LOL

Haha. Sorry. It's just funny listening to a Saints fan talking smack. You don't get a lot of that, normally. LOL
