Sparano on Favre: 'I can't rule anything out'

UPDATE (4:00 p.m.): Bus Cook, Favre's agent, likened Favre to Elvis (no, really) in an attempt to downplay the rumors.

"Brett Favre's retired, that's all I can say," Cook told ESPN. "He's like Elvis now. People just won't let go."

------

The Brett Favre watch isn't dead, we're sorry to inform you. We thought it was dead when his agent Bus Cook told the press that Favre is "retired, period."

But then Tony Sparano, who's dealing with some major quarterbacking drama down in Miami, had to go and refuse to say he wouldn't look at Favre for the Dolphins.

"I can't rule anything out...I'm giving you the only answer I can give you," Sparano told reporters when asked about Favre, per Omar Kelly of the Miami Sun-Sentinel.

But all the fault isn't on Sparano -- Dave Hyde, a Sun-Sentinel columnist definitely poured a couple gallons of gasoline on the proverbial fire when he decided to write a column Thursday titled, "Why shouldn't the Dolphins call Brett Favre?"

His list of five specific reasons why the 'Fins should sign Favre are, actually, not that suspect, outside of the part about turning "the Dolphins from a team no one's talking about to one everyone is."

That's just silly, in my opinion. And not because all the publicity surrounding Favre with the Jets and Vikings the last two years has been terrible either. It's because the goal is to win football games, not "get attention."

But, yeah, I'll recognize that Favre might sell more tickets than incumbent Chad Henne. And jerseys. And ... well, maybe that one works too, dammit.

Still, couldn't we at least just let the initial overtures on Favre begin in a way that doesn't require me to delete a bunch of comments telling me that "this isn't news"? Please?

Didn't think so -- and so we beat on, boat in the past and whatnot.

What's going to happen if Bert gets another boo-boo on his chin? He'll have to be carted off. Farve is a stat accumulator. His best accomplishment by far was his consecutive games played streak. His durability allowed him to accumulate the stats that he did. I believe Vinny Testaverde and Drew Bledoe are top 10 in total yardage also. He's top 20, mainly because of his durability. But he's also set back a lot of teams, Aaron Rodgers probably sat one year too long because of Brett's waffling, he set the JETS back at least a year and he absolutely killed Minnesota two years in a row.

But Being a Jets fan and watching no progressfrom HENNE since he left Michigan where he was an avg Q.B.
ok the Jets have made 2 straight AFC title games, nice job, but lost both, and im not knocking the jets, but as a jet fan you say Henne hasnt shown progress, well since fat rex has been the jets coach, Henne and Miami have beat them 3 of 4 games....not to bad.....and i still think henne is better then sanchez......i think henne will have a pretty good year.

BRETT FARVE would not make my top 20 all time quaterback list .
ok lets not get carried away here......If Favre isnt in your top 20 all-time then you seriously know nothing about football.
you said he ONLY won one super bowl, yea so what.....Dan Marino won ZERO and as far as im concerned Danny Marino ranks # 1 on my all-time list, yea yea im a Dolphins fan, so what Danny was THE BEST all-time!!!
Id probably put Favre top 10, somewhere around 8-10. never really thought about it but Favre would be top 10 i think

i dont get it.BRETT FARVE would not make my top 20 all time quaterback list . i think a lot of you are brainwashed by ESPN  the guy won one super bowl in 25 years and he had good teams . ive seen this guy screw up time after time at the end of games  just remember he holds the all time interception record.

Can someone please tell me when Brett Favre, or anyone associated directly with him, has mentioned a possible return? Yeah...that's right. NOBODY HAS! Until he, or someone associated with him, even hints at it, there is absolutely NO REASON for everyone to blame Favre for this media produced crap. The media brought it up, the media continues to mention it. Blame the media, not Brett Favre. He has not done anything wrong, and does not deserve your rude comments/remarks about him. He's retired, it's that simple. Until he, or someone directly associated with him, do slip up and mention it, this is all a bunch of media bloated bull crap!!

The Dolphins haven't had a quarterback since 1999. I have nothing against Favre.Even if they signed him, and he played well..it's just a band aid.Miami needs a long term option at Quarterback. Who that is? I have no idea. But fans are getting sick of having multiple QB's in one year. Maybe Henne can somehow get it done for them.
