Did the Lions tamper with a player again?

RB Ricky Williams made big news today signing a two-year deal with the Ravens to bolster Baltimore’s running back corps and to help take some of the load off Ray Rice.

But as the eagle eyes at Pro Football Talk point out, Williams’ interview with the South Florida Sun Sentinel about why he chose the Ravens might be grounds to charge the Lions with tampering. Yet again.

As Williams explains it, Scott Linehan -- former Dolphins offensive coordinator who worked with Williams when Nick Saban coached in Miami -- was (and still is) with Detroit as the offensive coordinator, and after a Lions-Dolphins game last year, he approached Williams and apparently said something along the lines of, “If you need a home, we’d love to have you on our team.”

That, of course, is a violation of the agreed-upon rules, since Williams was under contract with the Dolphins at the time. Williams’ final two choices for 2011 were the Ravens and the Lions, so Detroit ultimately didn’t cash in on the apparent recruiting job. But it’ll be interesting to see if the NFL investigates the matter and decides to punish the Lions.

As you might remember, the Lions aren’t that far removed from the NFL punishing them for tampering (last February to be exact). In that case, Gunther Cunningham, Detroit’s defensive coordinator, made comments to the media about wanting to pick up defensive players from his former employer, the Chiefs. As punishment, Detroit had to exchange its 2011 fifth-round pick for Kansas City’s fifth-round pick (a 14-pick swing) and the Lions lost their sixth-round selection in the 2012 NFL draft.

Did the Lions tamper with a player again?

Why can't people just leave the Lions alone. I am not a Lions fan, but they have been in the toilet to long, it looks like they are starting to get some respect and have a decent team that can compete with the other three teams in their divison, GB,CHI. and Minn. I don't beleave anything Ricky Williams say's. Even when he was with the Saints(which I am a fan) he showed he had little respect for his team or the NFL period. They would show Him in the French Qtr. signing autograph which is fine, but the French QTR does not seem to me to show young athletes how to make it in this day's NFL. Ricky is another high draft pick that didn't meet expations, and definetly not a poster boy for the NFL. Good Luck this year to the Lions.  WHO DAT!

Did the Lions tamper with a player again?

Williams obviously has a past vendetta against Linehan because he was the OC in Miami who worked with Williams. Its likely that Williams, with his pot head mantality, wants to get back at Linehan for a past infraction between them. It is so clear to me what is going on here.

Did the Lions tamper with a player again?

Did the Lions tamper, I seriously doubt it. They tampered before very recently with the Chiefs and believe me, the Lions program has learned from that mistake.

Did the Lions tamper with a player again?

I know, you know, we all know Williams is a pathetic pot head that, with this allegation, has probably tried something else to get high and this allegation is the result. This allegation is another prime example of this jerk's past life history. He is so out there that he had to go join some erotic, or radical something across the pond and be a free spirit or something of the sort and smoke his pot and remove himself from reality. If that is not out there on a thin limb and proof of a mind that can only be capable of hallucinations of psychedelic experiences, then its time for all of us to follow his lead. I couldn't believe this jerk for anything and have no respect for his being. He should not be in the NFL for he has done and admitted to.

Did the Lions tamper with a player again?

Please remove the curse. This season went from promising to depressing really quick. Go Lions!

Why? Because a rookie backup running back got hurt?  Or because a backup dlineman was hurt? Don't get me wrong, I like both of those guys but don't kid yourself.   The Lions have an excellent dline, one of the best in the league and Fairley as a rookie has a lot to learn before he becomes a regular on that line or before he can have a huge effect on the team.  Forget about Suh and how he played in his rookie year, there's a reason Suh was called a once in 10 year player in the draft.
