Jared Gaither to start over with Chiefs

GaitherPosted by Josh Katzowitz

With Jared Gaither helping hold down the Ravens offensive line, Baltimore was consistently one of the best running teams in the league. Last season, though, Gaither missed the entire year with a back injury, and perhaps not coincidentally, the Ravens running game became rather mediocre.

But with Baltimore set at the T position this season with Michael Oher and Oniel Cousins, the Ravens declined to sign the free agent Gaither -- which, as it turns out, opened the door for the Chiefs, who signed a deal with Gaither on Thursday.

The 6-foot-9, 340-pound Gaither played LT with the Ravens in 2008 and 2009. It’s not immediately clear on what side of the OL he’ll play for Kansas City, though it stands to reason that, assuming Gaither is healthy, he’s a more enticing tackle than Branden Albert on the left side or Barry Richardson on the right side.

There was a thought, though, that if the Ravens re-signed Gaither, they could return him to LT and switch Oher -- who struggled badly at times trying to protect QB Joe Flacco last season -- to the right side of the line.

But either Baltimore is extremely confident in Oher or not so confident in Gaither’s back, and now it’s up to the Chiefs to discover what Gaither has -- or doesn’t have -- left in his body.

Jared Gaither to start over with Chiefs

Well to update this board. I heard Gaithers was going to start at LT, then he got an injury in practice and has since been hampered by injury missing practices. Sounds like Ravens fans might have been right about this guy. He atleast gives some depth at Oline, warms the bench, and take up one of the 53 spots...

Hey Jess,

We didn't boo when Michael Irvin was lying on the field injured, we cheered. We booed Mike Schmidt with good cause. He was playing terrible and became a liability. He wasn't performing the way we like our players to play. We supported him for a long time, even when he was past his prime but at some point you know you're done and we watched him try to hang on to long. I watched and cheered even after he made the move from third to first, he just didn't have it anymore. Booing Santa was probably uncalled for, well, did you see him? He was the worst Santa ever. Just to clear it up, the hired Santa never made it to Franklin field(snow storm). Stadium personnel decided to have a Philly fan, who was dressed in a Santa costume watching the game, fill in for the hired Santa. This guy was like 5'6 150lbs and drunk off his a$$. He could barely stand let alone run from one end of the field to the other. After watching and supporting a 2-11 season, enough was enough. The Philly fans let him and the organization know how displeased they were. And started pelting Santa with snowballs and booing.

What you don't know is: even though Philly started out lossing 11 straight games, it had been snowing since the night before the game, temperatures were in the low 20's and over 50,000 loyal fans showed up to support those Eagles! We don't ask for a front runner, we don't need a great team, we want our players to hustle, show effort, run through a wall if you have to, show that the game and city is bigger than you attitude. If you can do that, the Philly fans will love you forever! And that is where the legend began.

SPONGEROB, much more than one a$$ clown to blame for Philly fans poor reputation.  Booing while Michael Irven lay injured on the field, booing hometown hero Mike Schmidt, and incredibly, booing and throwing snowballs at Santa Clause. A reputation well earned.

Hey KC PEnguin, I'm an Iggles fan and I know a lot about the game of football. Don't let one a$$ clown sway your opinion of all Philly fans. Everyone love to hate us right about now but we're not all like the one that posted that crap. You don't have to go down to his level! As my momma used to say, "Boy, take the high road, it may be less traveled but people will respect you for it!"

As far as Jared Gaither is concerned, it's a low risk, high reward deal. If he can show some passion for the game, KC made out like bandits. If he was indeed injured, hopefully he has recovered and can help a good running back in J. Charles become great. KC needs help at the O-Line and Gaither could be that guy. Albert is a tweener, gaurd/tackle but hasn't lived up to a top pick(15th), that he was. He hasn't be awful just not Jake Long or Joe Thomas but then again, who is? Albert didn't play football until his Junior year and only played 3 yrs of College ball. He is getting better but would probably make a better gaurd than a tackle. KC tried to make him a tackle because that was what they needed when they drafted him. Hopefully Gaither works out and Albert can move inside to his more natural position but he'll likely be opposed to it, as left tackles make more money than gaurds. Good Luck to KC and their running game, I'm trying to get Charles as my fantasy RB.

I doubt Gaither ever sees the field.  Dude is a lazy stoner who will fool the Chiefs just long enough to steal a paycheck.

Have to say that after seeing the Chiefs offensive line depth chart. I am glad that they brought in someone. Sounds like if he is able to stay healthy he could add some competition to the position in the Chiefs camp.
