Jared Gaither to start over with Chiefs

GaitherPosted by Josh Katzowitz

With Jared Gaither helping hold down the Ravens offensive line, Baltimore was consistently one of the best running teams in the league. Last season, though, Gaither missed the entire year with a back injury, and perhaps not coincidentally, the Ravens running game became rather mediocre.

But with Baltimore set at the T position this season with Michael Oher and Oniel Cousins, the Ravens declined to sign the free agent Gaither -- which, as it turns out, opened the door for the Chiefs, who signed a deal with Gaither on Thursday.

The 6-foot-9, 340-pound Gaither played LT with the Ravens in 2008 and 2009. It’s not immediately clear on what side of the OL he’ll play for Kansas City, though it stands to reason that, assuming Gaither is healthy, he’s a more enticing tackle than Branden Albert on the left side or Barry Richardson on the right side.

There was a thought, though, that if the Ravens re-signed Gaither, they could return him to LT and switch Oher -- who struggled badly at times trying to protect QB Joe Flacco last season -- to the right side of the line.

But either Baltimore is extremely confident in Oher or not so confident in Gaither’s back, and now it’s up to the Chiefs to discover what Gaither has -- or doesn’t have -- left in his body.

Gaither has horrible work ethics and it was explained to Harbaugh before they took him by Ralph Ffriedgen, Gaither's coach.He plays when he wants, practices when he wants and is injured when he wants.

Good ridence.

Jared Gaither has a very poor attitude and work ethic.  Good luck with this signing.  I read that the Raiders signed him last week.  What happened there?  Did Al Davis have enough sense to cut this guy already?

He is without a doubt the BEST OT on our roster now....
I guess that depends on how you define best.  I think he'd be the most talented OT on several teams, but this is a guy who has stated he's not sure if he wants to play football and was questioned prior to last season's injury over his commitment to the game.  It's a good signing in that it's low risk/high reward, but I wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't make it through camp either.  He's going to have to show Polian that he actually cares about the game.  Any team could use a 6'9" guy who actually does well in the running game, and Gaither fits that bill, but historically he only plays hard when he wants to.  Still, as a Seahawks fan I wished they'd taken the same chance the Chiefs did.

He is an eagles fan i am no more angered by his comments than i am shocked. Eagles fans are not known for being very bright. On the subject of Gaither if he is healthy he can be a true monster of a LT and will make our running game that much stronger. He is without a doubt the BEST OT on our roster now and Albert time for you to move out of the way, Seems we are now Baltimore And NE West lol

Good luck with this CLOWN....  3 plays into the season you will see this no talent takle come bumbling and stumbling over to the sideline with his injury.  Good Riddance....  I wish him much success but it won't be hard for him sitting on the bench........

Gaither = OVERRATED

BLOCK THIS PERSON FROM FURTHER COMMENT.  MOST INAPPROPRIATE!!!!   As a chief fan for life we need the depth at the tackle position.  I hope he is able to perform at the high level he did before.  We shall see how this developes.
