Lee Evans, on the trading block for just over 24 hours, has a new home: the Baltimore Ravens.

We speculated earlier that the Panthers, Dolphins, Ravens and Cardinals could be interested in trading for Evans, but Baltimore announced on Friday that they had dealt a 2012 draft pick in exchange for Evans.

"He’s a quality veteran receiver who stretches the field and gives us a significant downfield presence," Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome said Friday. "He's the type of person you want on your team. He brings leadership and maturity to the locker room."

Ravens Preseason

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, that draft pick is a fourth-round selection.

It's not a tremendous haul for Buffalo, per se, but they were able to unload a receiver who's underperformed for most of his career in a market that saw a heavy need for wide receivers.

Evans also won't be leaned on in Baltimore the way he was in Buffalo (at least prior to the emergency of our Super Bowl buddy and would-be rapper Stevie Johnson) thanks to the presence of Anquan Boldin, which should make him a much more viable threat.

Plus, despite what Ravens fans think of Joe Flacco, it's pretty clear he's an upgrade over either Trent Edwards or Ryan Fitzpatrick.

For the Ravens, this is a huge move -- it was noted that rookie Torrey Smith struggled during Thursday night's action, and receiver was a clear-cut need for Baltimore as the season nears.

Now they've addressed it, and if Evans can produce, he'll be a tremendous value in exchange for a fourth-rounder.

Fade,
Sorry, I thought this was an NFL football thread, not fantasy football.
Great stats (I guess).  He might be better than Ben and Manning and Brees and...
Yay, Baltimore wins Fantasy Football!

Tribe Fan, back that up with Joe Flacco stats and I'll stop talking.

Let's see... He's led the Ravens to three consecutive playoff berths, with at least one playoff win every year...

In three seasons, he's thrown for 10,206 yards, 60 TDs, with a career QB Rating of 87.9
He's coming off a career year with high marks in all three (3,622; 25; 93.6)

So please, hit me with some numbers. Or admit that Flacco is an above average QB.

FadeTheFord:  Flacco has been outstanding over his short career thus far, and Ravens fans have been 100% behind the QB the whole way. The only people who have been overtly critical of Joe have been analysts and opposing fans and players.

In two sentences, Fade managed to confirm that lack of football knowledge that has inflicted Baltimore.

...giving up a 4th rounder and likely to receive a few picks due to losses via free agency anyhow. A Win/Win situation for both teams.

There's a lot of disparity in opinions on this trade and the Ravens in general.
Although I think that the trade was a good one for the Ravens in that it addressed their immediate needs at #2 receiver and downfield threat, and they didn't have to sacrifice very much for it. However, I don't think that this puts them OVER THE EDGE as a team like some people have been claiming.

As a Ravens fan, I always come into the season with high hopes and expectations, but this year I'm definitely wary. Anyone who watched the first preseason game with any football knowledge could tell you that the Ravens pass defense looked awful. Mike Vick made the secondary look foolish on his first and only drive, going 4/6 with 74 and a TD.

Okay, yes, it is preseason. Yes, we were missing Dominique Foxworth. Yes, this game didn't matter. BUT STILL! The Ravens have always had difficulty defending the pass, (21st in NFL, 225 ypg allowed in 2010) even though their defense has been heralded as one of the best for years. NEWSFLASH, we needed to acquire a lockdown corner like Nnamdi Asumogha or even Jonathan Joseph. We failed to do so and our pass defense is going to lag because of it.

Does acquiring Lee Evans make the Ravens a better team? Absolutely.

Does it make me feel like they are in for any more than another wild card berth and AFC Finals loss? Nope.
