'One or both' of Ocho, Haynesworth to get cut?

Albert Haynesworth and Chad Ochocinco are now Patriots. This is because, we're all told and we all believe, Bill Belichick is a genius, capable of controlling anyone that enters his locker room and turning a malcontent into a productive player.

But Dan Pompei, writing at the National Football Post, says the Patriots may have other ideas, and that he was told last week that "one or both" of the dynamic duo could be cut before the season begins.

"One NFL executive familiar with the Patriots ways told me he believes one or both of the big name acquisitions will be cut before the season starts," Pompei writes. "The front office man thinks coach Bill Belichick will use the controversial players to help control and send a message to his locker room."

That either could be cut isn't that shocking -- as we've previously noted, both Haynesworth and Ochocinco restructured their deals. Haynesworth is owed almost zero (!) dollars for 2011 if he's cut, and Ocho will make just $2.5 million.

Both players have their deals set up so that the money would spike in 2012 and 2013 ... if they stay around.

So will they? Well, maybe not. After all, the reason both Ocho and Big Al were such "smart additions" is that they're cheap, talented options who can still produce if they manage to fall in line.

Patriots Preseason

For my money, Haynesworth seems the more likely fella to get cut. Belichick has always been enamored of Ochocinco, who actually fits what the Patriots need offensively.

That being said, this could all be another grand scheme orchestrated by Belichick to motivate his newly acquired, low-paid, big-name veterans. (Though that's not likely; but it would be amusing.) Or it could, as Pompei was told, be designed to motivate the rest of the team.

But what it really boils down to is whether or not Belichick believes that Haynesworth and Ocho can contribute to helping this team win a Super Bowl in 2011 -- as our own Pete Prisco writes, the "real message" sent by cutting either/or of the new additions is that they can't help achieve that goal.

The money they could and should get in 2012 and 2013 is irrelevant right now, as it's certainly not guaranteed to be there at the end of the year.

And, for all we know, it might be off the table by the end of the preseason.

Chad nor Albert are impact Players anymore but Chad would go first in my book. I think Albert would make more of an impact on DEF. The Pats would have been better off picking up T.O. if they were looking for a Deep ball play maker. I totally disagree with the writer Chad was not productive but T.O. was, Chad was the no.1WR there.

I find it amusing that someone thinks the Pats will release Haynesworth when in todays Boston Globe Patriots DL coach Pepper Johnson has said that Haynesworth has looked "Great"
Here's a link to the article:

If anything all this article serves to tell us is what we already know about Belichick, he will release anyone he thinks is not helping the team, he will trade them when they outlast what he needs for them to do but to say he will definitely rel;ease one or both Haynesworth & Ochocinco at this point is just crazy.
They haven't been with the team long enough to make that assertion, now if at the end of camp Coach Belichick thinks it's best they move on from the guys I wouldn't be surprised by it but I will say that though they did trade low draft picks for both players Coach Belichick values any pick in the draft highly and wouldn't have traded for them unless he was confiodent they would be productive for the team.

Since Prisco only likes east coast teams of all sports except for the Lakers it don't surprise me that he lives in New England training camp.
Or is this just more east coast prisco babble?

What a donut this guy is! Poor journalism as best. The Patriots have nothing financially invested. Its WAY too early to cut someone with their upside. I agree, someone may get cut at some point later in the season or even pre-season for that matter but Ocho or Fat Albert would have to be completely incompetent, belligerent, and a  totally uncooperative train wreck at this point to get dumped. Bellichick is not perfect. Just because he takes a chance and it doesnt work out doenst mean he's an idiot. It's an effing risk, everyone knows that. But it's also risks well worth taking at this price. I'm sick of everyone just waiting for something to go wrong. If one or both get cut at some point - SO EFFING What. It was an awesome wager with odds in Bills favor.

If there production warrants keeping them .. keep them ... if however their attitudes are at all going to be questionable .... cut them .... Patriots WILL do the right thing .....
