Aaron Maybin was waived by the Buffalo Bills on Monday afternoon, the team announced. Maybin was taken with the 11th overall pick in the 2009 draft. And if there was ever any debate about him being a tremendous bust, well, that debate is over right now, regardless of what happens the rest of his career.

Also Google, would like to weigh in, before we continue with said debate:

And, as we know, Google doesn't lie.

Neither do the stats -- in two years with Buffalo, the Penn State product has recorded exactly zero sacks, one forced fumble and logged 15 tackles in 27 games.

Bills Preseason

That Maybin was let go now is actually a good thing, though. Buffalo is acknowledging a clear-cut indication to move forward with the franchise and not dwell on past (although not-too-distant) mistakes.

Maybin's been completely embarrassing as a football player thus far in his career, but that doesn't mean he won't latch on somewhere.

As we've seen with Vernon Gholston -- and many others before him -- there's ample availability for second chances in the NFL.

Just for fun, here's the next ten players that were taken after the Bills nabbed Maybin: Knowshon Moreno, Brian Orakpo, Malcolm Jenkins, Brian Cushing, Larry English, Josh Freeman, Robert Ayers, Jeremy Maclin, Brandon Pettigrew and Alex Mack.

To be fair, Tamba Hali sucked his first two seasons too.

Paul poszluzny - penn st. LB who also washed out in Buffalo, granted injuries are a factor but wow I bet they look to a Wisconsin player next time they take a Big 10 defensive player!!

The Bills have become a joke because of the complete lack of quality management from the very top down.  The franchise has been on a downward slide ever Bill Polian was forced out in the early 90's, and the current mgmt has no desire to put a quality product on the field.  And really -- why would you, when it would be cheaper to have the fans abandon the team so Ralph Wilson can move them to LA.

Aaron Maybin is a bust in Buffalo, but maybe he needed a change in scenery. The Bills have been well known for botching 1st round picks in the last several years. If Mike Freeman says the Patriots will make a great player out of him, I will toss my cookies. The Cowboys need depth at DE, maybe there...who knows.

Another shining example of the horrible job the Bills have done drafting in the past 15 years or so.  You can't continue to miss on 1st round picks and get anywhere in this league.

I remember the days when I used to hate the Bills as a Pats fan, now I just feel sorry for them.

Something terribly wrong up there in Buffalo.

Mel Kiper saw him going as the number 10 pick in 2009.   Great job again, Mel.    You and McShay are no better than the average fan  at prediciting how a player will pan out.    You can predict draft positions, but not the eventual quality of those picks.    To paraphrase Sgt Schults,  "you know nothing"

The moral of this story is not to draft Penn State defensive lineman in the first round.

Two words for you....Tamba Hali.
There is always one exception to prove the rule.  I guess I should have said defensive tackle though as that is what I meant.

Is there a Bills first round draft choice that hasn't been a bust in a decade? I'm not a Bills fan. So if there has been a successful first rounder, who is it and are they still with the team?
