Sounds like Aaron Maybin might get a second chance to rejuvenate a career that never really ignited.

A couple days after Buffalo released Maybin from the team which drafted him with the No. 9 pick in the 2009 NFL draft (which led us, naturally, to ask why the Bills had drafted him in the first place), a number of New York scribes are reporting that Maybin will sign with the Jets.

According to Rapid Reporter Lisa Zimmerman, Maybin is expected to sign today, pending a passed physical.

Maybin, an undersized LB who recorded zero sacks and 16 tackles in 27 career games, obviously didn’t do well while trying to play in the Bills 3-4 defense last year, but sources tell the New York Daily News that Maybin should do better in the Jets multiple fronts look.

The Jets also apparently aren’t concerned with Maybin’s drastic weight loss (according to the Daily News, he went from 250 pounds to 228 after dealing with pneumonia before training camp), and he’s already back up to 242 pounds.

Rollnoles10. As a passionate Jets fan I certainly wouldn't expect this guy to remind us of the NY Sack Exchange. I feel Vernon Gholston had more talent and consistency at OSU than Maybin at State Penn. Mangini and Rex gave him THREE years to do something. Results: ZERO sacks. I am sorry. Have my doubts that a 230 lb guy who gets pushed around by marginal Offensive Linemen can make an impact.

I said last night that Maybin would be a great fit 4 the Jets . Rex will get him back to form.
Hey you are getting a First Rd Pick for pennies. I think its a No Brainer!! Watch Maybin Flourish with the Jets. I think this is an awesome move . Only makes our D that much better..  GO JETS!!

It's a one year deal for League Minimum. No reason to be all up and arms about this acquisition. I personally don't think he'll be around come opening day. However, the Jets pass rush was spotty at best last year and didn't look any better vs Houston. I am very concerned about the inability to get to the QB. Rex uses exotic blitz packages. While they are good for creating INT's and short runs, they do leave us vulnerable to big plays like Big Ben did if he can read our blitz.

Most players thrive, are average, or are a bust depending largely on the system they are in. Granted, some players have learning problems, or attitude issues that overwhelm their physical talent, and they will always struggle to stay employed. But the typical NFL player's career is largely dependent on the system he finds himself it.
