Cam Newton, it’s now your time to be in the spotlight.

OK, you’ve already been in the spotlight quite a bit these past few months. Let’s rephrase. Cam Newton, it’s now your time to make an NFL start.

That was the word Wednesday from Panthers coach Ron Rivera, who said after practice that Newton will start Friday’s game vs. the Dolphins.

That’s via Rapid Reporter Steve Reed, who quotes Rivera saying, “It's pretty much following the line of what we had planned throughout training camp, and that's to go back and forth and back and forth with our guys. It's a good opportunity."

That said, Rivera doesn’t know who will start Carolina’s season opener against the Cardinals. He’s not ready to make THAT decision quite yet. But he started Jimmy Clausen in the preseason opener and then brought Newton in to work with the first-teamers midway through the half, and now, he’s going to do the exact opposite thing Friday.

“We want to make sure everybody gets a chance to play and work with the guys and keep that competition going,” Rivera said.

In that first game, Clausen completed 4 of 7 passes for 69 yards, a touchdown and an interception while Newton’s accuracy was off (he was 8 for 19 for 134 yards). He’s hoping he can make a better impression when he’s the first Panthers quarterback to take the field Friday. And perhaps even solidify his chances of starting the regular season?

“Just know that we have a plan and we're sticking to it,” Rivera said. “And as we go through the process sometime next week, we'll have a real good feel for what we're going to do as we go into the regular season.”

Cam Newton will start Friday vs. Dolphins

Yeah, note to board, this KLM11 clown is on every thread about Newton bashing him every chance he gets.  His m.o. is the same.  He writes some 2,000 word dissertation about how he "knows" that Newton can't hit a WR from 5 yards away and how he "has a friend" who saw Newton take money from Mississippi State and Auburn.  His schtick has been running for a few weeks now.  Don't take my word for it, just check out all his old posts.  He's a disgruntled USC fan who wants Newton to go down in flames and be an NFL bust.  Just like Reggie Bush's Heisman trophy collegiate career went down in flames and his NFL career has mostly been a bust.

Cam Newton will start Friday vs. Dolphins

Irony----- You can't wait for the Cam Newton phase to pass yet you took the time to wirte a very long 6 paragraph post on a non-story about him. Going as far as to increase the size of your letters and making them bold as to show how important your opinion of Cam is. I am willing to bet this isn't the first thread you've posted on about Cam and it won't be your last.

Isn't it ironic?
Don't you think?

If I were you I would just be more worried that my team didn't high tail it back to L.A.

Cam Newton will start Friday vs. Dolphins

I can't wait till after week one of the NFL, so we don't have to here about this moron being a savior for the Carolina Panthers.   Once Cam Newton, starts or even plays in that first real game and starts throwing horrible pass after horrible pass and gets taken to the house by some safety or DB who just picked him off.    Seriously guys, if you don't know that QB's that aren't intelligent enough to run even the most basic pro offense or read a basic pro defense don't do very good in this league, then you don't really know football.  Not to mention that the team he's on already stinks.  Cam Newton is the dumber version of Vince Young, that's not just me talking crap, it's a fact.  Let me ask all you Cam Newton lovers, what would you say about a guy who's whole life has been playing football, yet when he finally got to a four year college he still could not remember the names of basic offensive plays, which forced the coaching staff to start using simple two digit numbers to call plays even a kindergartner would remember?  Still think someone that dumb could be an NFL QB?  Okay, how about a guy who at the age of 7 his parents started calling him by only the first three letters of his name, because he would still misspell his full first name constantly?    Anyone with basic common sense would call that guy very unintelligent, even bordering on below stupid, which is closer to being legally retarded.  In case you don't know by now that guy is Cam Newton, or as it says on his birth certificate Cameron Newto
n.

Did anyone notice I didn't even mention that Newton is extremely inaccurate with his passing or that he lacks the ability to consistently take a snap from under center?  I figure I didn't need to, because even a blind man could see that just by watching him play in last weeks game against the Giants.  The best part about last weeks game was seeing and hearing the fans stand up and cheer when Newton came into the game, then after three offensive series to see those same fans sitting in disappointment after watching him complete 5 out of 13 passes, with 2 sacks, no TD's and a pass overthrown by 7 yards to a wide open WR that should have been a touchdown.  I have an arm like a girl and even I could have hit that wide out in stride as wide open as he was.  An average QB in the NFL has to be halfway consistent with his passes, Cam Newton will be a below average QB at best.  Jimmy Clausen must smile every time he sees Newton drop back to pass!
