Report: Jonathan Baldwin injures wrist in fight

There were concerns early in training camp that Chiefs rookie first-round pick Jonathan Baldwin was struggling to beat press coverage. This is a problem because a lot of NFL teams play press coverage, and even more teams will employ it until Baldwin shows he can get open.

This falls squarely under "silver linings," but it appears that the Kansas City coaches don't have to worry about Baldwin getting off the line of scrimmage, at least for the next few weeks. According to report from Nick Wright of 610 radio in Kansas City, Baldwin could miss the rest of the preseason (and maybe longer) due to a wrist injury suffered during a locker room brawl with veteran running back Thomas Jones.

Not helping Baldwin's transition from college standout to another one of the guys in an NFL locker room (again, via Wright): "What I'm hearing on Baldwin: 'He's as advertised. Diva, spoiled, doesn't wanna listen. Can run a go and a slant, and doesn't wanna work.'"

This revelation makes you wonder what general manager Scott Pioli saw in Baldwin to make him worth a first-round pick. Forget that Baldwin allegedly can't beat press coverage (maybe the defenses he faced in college played off-coverage because of his big-play ability), but how can Pioli not know about the perception that Baldwin is a spoiled diva "who doesn't wanna listen?"

Either way, this is terrible news for a team that was embarrassed at home last week by the Buccaneers, 25-0. And it doesn't get easier: the Chiefs face the Ravens in Baltimore on Friday night.

No biggie, but compliment is praise. Complement is making better by combining or working together.

It is kind of funny , a good friend of mine is a Pitt graduate and he told me that he has friends in the Pitt area and he wouldn't have drafted this guy even in the 5th round. He told me just what the article said and this was before the draft.

People make a big deal out of nothing, first thing, Bowe was worse that Baldwin when he came into the league, Bowe did not straighten out his head until last season. Second, fights in pre-season happen all the time. Remember when someone hit Tait in the face with their helmet? and the helmet was not being worn at the time. (what is it with NFL receivers? they are are like a bunch of punk women.)

Anyone know why it happened? KC beat reporters suck or what?

As a jets fan I loved Thomas jones. He's a class act and still a good back, who compliments charles well. That being said, regardless of how much of a bad attitude Baldwin has, he is the teams first round pick, who now is not going to be able to work on the problems he's having with getting off the line against NFL cb's. This doesn't help the chiefs, it doesn't help the g.m. And it in the end won't help a veteran like jones. GM's don't want to be proven they made a huge mistake with a first round pick, and while the kid sounds like he needed what Jones dished out, it doesnt help the Chiefs.

Don't mess with Thomas Jones! Dudes a beast. Something must be fairly accurate about this drama queen/no work ethic stuff about Baldwin if it got an old veteran like TJ fired up enough to waste his time on a rookie....
