Tracking Tebow: Preseason, Week 2 -- Bills

That's right, we're tracking Tebow's performance throughout the preseason because, well, like a slow-motion train wreck we can't look away. And who knows, maybe this experiment doesn't derail and it has a happy ending. Wait, what's that? You don't care about Tebow? Then what are you doing here?

Wow, that didn't take long, did it? After a decent showing against the Cowboys in Week 1 of the preseason (documented in great detail here), Tebow was relegated to mop-up duty behind Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn against the Bills in Week. Incidentally, Orton and Brady both played well (10/13, 135 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT and 10/16, 130 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT, respectively). Tebow, meanwhile, was 1 of 2 for a whopping 10 yards. He didn't get in the game until the fourth quarter and played just two series.

Now the conversation isn't about whether Tebow will be the Broncos' starter, but if he can beat Quinn out for the No. 2 job -- and perhaps most amazing -- if the team would consider trading or cutting him weeks after it appeared they were ready to install him as their franchise quarterback.

But hey, this in the NFL where fortunes can change in a hurry. As the old cliche goes, the backup is only one play away from being the starter. Which means that, as it stands, Tebow is two plays away from realizing his dream. With that in mind, it's the latest installment of the Tebow Tracker, where we chart every one of his preseason snaps, the result, and what it all means for him and the Broncos in 2011.

                                                          Quotes

CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman: "The consensus in speaking with a handful of team personnel executives when it comes to one Tim Tebow is this: A trade could happen, but it's becoming increasingly likely the Broncos will keep or cut Tebow because the trade interest is dwindling rapidly. The executives portray the Tebow situation as a complicated one. They believe that while the Broncos are not openly trying to trade Tebow, they say that when teams have recently inquired about him, the Broncos haven't been saying he's off the trading block, either."

CBSSports.com's Gregg Doyel: "[Terrelle] Pryor strikes me as another Vince Young or Tim Tebow, and we all see what kind of success Vince Young and Tebow have had, so far, as NFL quarterbacks."

ESPN Analyst (and vocal Tebow critic) Merril Hoge, as paraphrased by ESPN.com blogger Bill Williamson: "On 'SportsCenter' Monday, NFL analyst Merril Hoge (who has been highly critical of Tebow’s ability this summer) said Denver should cut Tebow if it can’t work out a trade with St. Louis. Former Denver head coach Josh McDaniels, who drafted Tebow with the No. 25 overall pick last year, is now the Rams’ offensive coordinator. With budding star Sam Bradford quarterbacking St. Louis, Tebow wouldn’t be more than a backup and special-package player in St. Louis."

ESPN.com blogger Bill Williamson, in his own words: "Don’t expect Quinn to give up his backup spot in the coming days. Tebow played late and he didn’t do much. The fact that Quinn threw 16 passes and Tebow tossed just two shows the team is much more interested in seeing Quinn play than seeing Tebow at this point. Tebow’s arrow is simply not pointing in the right direction as we approach the start of the season."

Denver Post columinst Woody Paige: "Tim Tebow will be the Broncos' starting quarterback this season. ... But The Tebow Thing won't happen until Dec. 11."

                                                   Action Shots*

*Last week, there were real, live action shots of Tebow playing in a real, live preseason game (proof here). Against the Bills, Tebow did a lot of standing around, and when he got into the game he was either handing off or getting sacked. We think that is pretty well reflected below. We like to call it: "standing, standing, handoff, sack, fin."

Assuming Tebow is still in the league, please join us next week for another installment of "Tracking Tebow." You know you want to.

Tracking Tebow: Preseason, Week 2 -- Bills

Quotes: Mike Freeman - "it's becoming increasingly likely the Broncos will keep or cut Tebow.
Please,,, please cut Tebow and get him out from under the moron staff at Denver.
However, get the riot police warmed up to then control the Bronco fan faithful.....

* The Orlando Sentinel had an article just this week claiming that in the entire state of Florida, Tebow is more popular than the Bucs, Phins, and the Jags,,,, combined.
The Vote, as of last Sat was: Jags 2.76% -- Bucs 8.29% -- Phins 15.89% --- Tebow 73.06% -- Total Votes - 579
So if you/they really believe that no NFL team is interested in getting Tebow, PLEEEZE cut him.
=========

Quotes: Gregg Doyel - "Tim Tebow, and we all see what kind of success Tebow has had, so far, as an NFL quarterback."
(don't use Tebow and V.Young in the same sentence, it makes you look even dumber,,, lefty S.Young comparisons are okay)

2010 Rookie QB NFL Passer Ratings:
1. Tebow - 82.1 - 5 TD's to 3 Int's, Ratio 1.64 to 1. (with a 15.4 ypr average)
2. Bradford 76.5 - 18 TD's to 15 Int's, Ratio 1.2 to 1.
3. McCoy - 74.5 - 6 TD's to 9 Int's, Ratio .64 to 1.
4. Clausen 58.4 - 3 TD's to 9 Int's, Ratio .33 to 1.
Other Bronco QB's Rookie Season Passer Comparisons:
~ K.Orton - 59.7 - 9 TD's to 13 Int's, Ratio .69 to 1.
~ B.Quinn - 56.8 - 0 TD's to 0 Int's.
~ J.Elway - 54.9, 7 TD's to 14 Int's, Ratio .50 to 1

* Plus Tebow also ran the ball 43 times for 5.3 ypc with 6 TD's and ZERO lost poss. fumbles.
>> As a Rookie, Bucs All Pro FB Mike Alstott (the A-Train) only averaged 3.9 ypc with 4 fumbles, 2 lost poss.
My, my, my,,,, but it looks to me like Tim has been OUTSTANDING as an NFL QB,,, so far!

By the end of the 1st quarter in his 1st NFL start in the Black Hole at Oakland, Tebow had joined Kordell Stewart and Michael Vick as the only 3 QB's in NFL HISTORY to run for a 40-yard TD (on a 3rd and 24) and THROW for a 30+ yard TD (33) in the same game.

L - Orton/Broncos @ Denver 14 - 59 Oakland (-45 Orton at Home - 7th year Vet)
L - Tebow/Broncos 23 - 39 @ Oakland (-16 Tebow in the Black Hole - 1st rookie start)
Tim was 8 of 16 for 138 yds, 17.25 yds/comp with a TD and zero Ints, giving him a 100.5 QB Rating.

That 100.5 was an NFL BEST for any Rookie QB's 1st start in 2010.

Tebow posted his first NFL win (2nd Start) when he rallied the Broncos from a 13-point fourth-quarter deficit to a 24-23 win over the Houston Texans.
For Tim's 2nd start, they let him throw the ball more and he went 16 of 29 for 308 yds, 19.3 yds/comp for an 89.4 Passer rating.
Tebow guided Denver to three TD's and a FG on the Broncos' four second-half possessions.
Denver had trailed 17-0 at halftime.
Tebow's first 'come from behind 4th quarter win' came in just his 2nd NFL rookie start.

Tim's 3rd rookie start @ SD was a close 5 pts loss (28-33) to a much better team.
Tim combined for 299 yds of total offense with 2 passing TD's and 1 rushing TD.
==============

Last season, the media morons claimed that Tebow would NOT be able to run against the big tough NFL D's.
Tim finished his limited use rookie season on the ground:
~ First with a 5.3 YPC (Min. 40 attempts, includes all 2010 NFL rookies, any position)
PLUS
~ Tied for 2nd among NFL rookies (all positions) with 6 Rushing TD's.
PLUS
~ Tied for 6th in Total TD's (6r-5p = 11).
~ 7th in Rushing 1st downs.
~ 9th in Rushing yards.
~ But only 10th in his total number of carries, (9 players had more carries).
~~~ ALL THAT WITH ONLY 3 FREAKIN' STARTS plus 12 plays total  in 3-4 other games! ~~~
===============
The 2011 Denver Coach, Staff, & Owner can do whatever they want to at QB for 2011, however,,,,,
Orton 3-10 (.231 winnng %) 7th year NFL Pro (Sacks 34 for 243 yds, 7.3 yd/sac)
Tebow 1-2 (.333 winning %) 1st year NFL Rookie (Sacks 6 for 26 yds, 4.3 yd/sac)
With Orton at QB in 13 games, there were 9 games where the Broncos failed to put up 21 points last year:
Orton - 17, 13, 17, 20, 14, 16, 14, 6, 13.
But rookie Tebow, coming in cold without the season long 1st team reps, still put up:
Tebow - 23, 24, & 28 pts -- but that somehow supposedly shows that he can't play at an NFL level? WTF???
The Tebow led Broncos were 7th in the league in points per game.
The Orton led Bronvos were 20th in the league in PPG.
And Tebow had less help from the (injured) RBs than Orton did earlier in the season.
In 13 games, Orton with Pro Bowl WR Brandon Lloyd - 18.3 ypr with 1 TD per 7 receptions.
In 3 games, Tebow with Pro Bowl WR Brandon Lloyd - 18.8 ypr with 1 TD per 7 receptions.
Keep in mind that those are 7th year NFL Vet, to a raw rookie at QB passing comparisons.
Tebow had 1 TD per 11.4 plays. He went 1-2 as a starter and averaged 25 pts/gm .
Kyle Orton had 1 TD per 26.0 plays. He went 3-10 as a starter and averaged 20.4 pts/gm.
* For a point of reference - Big Ben with the Steelers had 1 TD per 14.4 plays.
Now really, who would you want as your starter in 2011?
Here, let me help you to further decide with some Tebow Rookie situational stats:
~ Averaged only 4.5 yds lost per sack, (6 for 26 yds).
~ He was sacked only once on a (drive ending) 3rd down.
~ Averaged 15.6 yds/comp passing, (His throws were not mostly screens and dump-offs).
~ Had almost three times more passing yards than rushing yards btw, (654 to 227).
~ In the 2nd half of games, his Passer Rating was a 91.3 with 3 TD's to 1 Int.
* Zero lost poss. fumbles on his 125 rookie plays. <<<<<<
* Tackled behind the LOS only 6 times on his 125 total plays.
~ Had a 5.3 ypc average running.
~ On his 3rd down runs, he was 10 for 102 yds, 10.2 ypc with 2 TD's.
NO ROOKIE QB IN NFL HISTORY HAS THESE STATS!
~ On 1st and goal, 2 carries for 2 TD's.
~ On 2nd and goal, 2 carries for 2 TD's.
~ On 3rd and goal, 1 carry for 1 TD.
~ His other (6th) rushing TD was also on 3rd down (3rd and 24) but it went for 40 yards, a Broncos QB All Tim team record.
** When the Broncos were behind, Tim ran 25 times for 176 yds, 7.0 ypc and 5 TD's.
>>> So much for the media morons that claimed that Tim would not be able to run the ball in the NFL....
==================
But that was in 2010, maybe he went stupid or incompetent since then?
Now, for the 1st preseason Bronco game in 2011 against the Cowboys:
Orton - 2 of 6, 6.2 yds/att, with a 55.6 Passer Rating
Quinn - 8 of 14, 8.6 yds/att, with a 109.2 Passer Rating
Tebow - 6 of 7, 13.0 yds/att, with a 118.8 Passer Rating
* But Tebow is also tied for 1st with a long run of 13 yds & #2 on the team with a 7.5 ypc rushing average.
Start Tim with the 1st Teamers and let Orton show us what he can do in the 4th quarter with the 3rd teamers and scrubs..... ==============
Merril Hoge (da hodger-dodger) is a hater/idiot imoho.
Is he really that football stupid, or is he just using his negetive Tebow BS in an attempt to bolster his own falling ratings?
Tracking Tebow: Preseason, Week 2 -- Bills
Meril Hodge is just a talking head.  He has decided that picking on Tebow will keep him front and center on the broadcast shows...........so why not milk it?
When they let Tebow play with the big boys (starters) and he messes up, then we can do some real evaluating.
Too bad Tim is in Denver.....Broncos organization is not behind him there.  He doesn't have any one in his corner.The two "Johns" want to win NOW..............well I hate to tell you, but their NOW is a long, long way off.
A trade to another team would be nice for Tim...........how can he possibly succeed in the circus atmosphere that the Broncos have brought onto themselves because they don't know what they are doing from day to day.
Tracking Tebow: Preseason, Week 2 -- Bills
Denver is not even giving him a chance. They called mostly running plays! Trade him to the Eagles for Vince Young. The city of Philadelphia would welcome Tebow. The kid is a hard worker and has heart. Meril you should love this kid he is a football player. Instead you have become a desk jocky and forget what a real football player is. How bout Doug Flutie did he fit the NFL QB image.
