JaMarcus Russell pays off $200K in property taxes

JaMarcus Russell is still currently out of football, having successfully submarined his career with enough purple drank that he's behind guys like Josh McCown and Daunte Culpepper on the desperation tryout list.

But here's some happy news about the former Raiders quarterback: he's paying off his debts!

So says TMZ, who reports that Russell recently paid back a $223,180.05 property tax lien from the State of California.

Unfortunately, he still owes debt and penalties on a $2.4 million mansion in Oakland that's scheduled to be auctioned off in foreclosure next month.

So he's not paying off all his debts, per se, but he is working through the stack of papers that's sitting on his desk enough to kick back more than two hundred grand in property taxes.

Although considering that he made $60 million guaranteed from the Raiders, you'd think he might have enough hanging around/left over in order to keep himself from completely falling into debt and losing all the nice things he's got.

But you'd also think he'd still be in the league less than five years after being the No. 1 overall pick. And you'd be wrong.

Hey Simnsez.  I never called anyone an idiot if you can read.  Secondly he did not play out his contract he was CUT before the 2010 season so he made around 32 million garanteed, not 61.  He signed a six year contract and played not even three so not sure what you are talking about saying he played out his contract.

After failing to reach a contract agreement with the Raiders, Russell held out through and into the first week of the , until September 12, when he signed a six-year contract worth up to $68 million, with $31.5 million guaranteed.

JaMarcus Russell is a bum.  How does a guy like him ever make $60 million?  Way overpaid, way overdrafted, and one of Al Davis' worst mistakes.  I love Al Davis, but drafting this clown number 1 overall is one of the many ways he'll be remembered.  Which is too bad, because Al Davis is a loyal and dedicated owner.  This deadbeat needs to pay his bills/debt!

You're the idiot! Only 2.4 Mil ! for a POS house in Oakland! That same money would buy you four to ten times the house in 95% of the rest of the country. And you say $224,000 for back taxes on a 2.4 mil house is too much? Thats less than 10%! I'm paying 13% on my POS house in Portland! Thats why California is circling the drain, you moron, because none of you jerkoffs are willing to pay for what you get and because you're over run with lefty progressive politicians who let all of the illegals in and then instantly put them on welfare and social security and house them in publicaly subsidized housing even though they've never paid a dime in taxes. California is dragging the rest of the country down with it. We ought to just cut you loose and let the jozemexuals, gooks, kikes, and freaks have you.
