Frank Gore: 'I want to be a 49er'

Frank Gore didn't play on Saturday night when San Francisco got rolled 30-7 by the Texans. But he wasn't injured or anything -- the team held him out in preparation for a Monday meeting between the front office and Gore's agent Drew Rosenhaus where they'll discuss the running back's contract status.

Gore, as we've detailed numerous times, wants a new deal. And he's a bit frustrated by his situation (he's only getting paid $4.9 million in a walk year -- how can you blame him?!?) and may or may not be snapping at coaches during practice these days. But that doesn't mean Gore's going to holdout or demand a trade or anything.

He just wants to be "treated right."

"I want to be here," Gore said, per Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. "I want to be a 49er. I want to be treated right. Like I said, if it gets done, it gets done. If not, I'm going to be here for my teammates and my coaching staff."

Gore and Chris Johnson of the Titans -- who's currently embroiled in a much more contentious contract situation -- have been lumped together because they're both running backs with some wear-and-tear over the past few years who want to be paid more than they currently are.

But the situations are quite different. Gore's 28, whereas Johnson's 25 -- which one would you rather pay. Gore's also in the final year of his contract (Johnson has two years remaining) and is making multiple millions of dollars. Johnson's slated to make multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars.

While the latter distinction might seem silly given the current state of the economy, there's little doubt that Johnson is substantially more undervalued relative to his production than Gore is, and it's not as Gore's getting seriously underpaid this year.

Which may explain why he's playing a little nicer when it comes to relations with the team than Johnson.

Frank Gore: 'I want to be a 49er'

This guy is greedy.  He was probably making the NFL minimum when he was at "The U".

if ur a true forty-niner fan, u need to let the man try to get what he can get and cheer for the TEAM

A fan that cares for and cheers for his team doesn't appreciate players that signed a contract holding out for more money.   If players don't like that owners  can cut them in the middle of a deal when the guaranteed money is gone then get that changed when negotiating a new CBA.  But for now the rules are the rules and if a player is under contract he should shut up and play football.   To Gore's defence he's not holding out right now and it appears he's willing to play out the last season of his current contract which is a great thing for everybody involved.  Great for the fans of the 49'ers and great for Gore as well because if he plays well and can stay healthy for an entire season there will be teams lined up for him when he becomes a free agent after the season.  Sitting out doesn't do anybody any good at all.

I would rather pay Gore than Johnson. Johnson is a one hit wonder and he is a "scat" back who moves way too much to stay healthy. If Gore and Johnson switched teams the Texans would be in the Super Bowl because Johnson is all about himself.

PAY FRANKIE!!

...your or anyone else's life struggles have nothing to do with his contract and the way he has out performed it, compared to other similarly paid RBs in the NFL.....if ur a true forty-niner fan, u need to let the man try to get what he can get and cheer for the TEAM......u wouldn't want someone telling u that u didnt didnt deserve your 20k.......he has a skill set that warrants he gets paid what he market can bear....wether he had a good year or not......what he gets or doesnt does affect my love for the 49ERS.......i.e FGore balls his ass-off and never runs out of bounds......he balls-tha-f-up every snap....CHECK-IT!

Gore has proven himself, but you can't take anything away from Johnson.  Johnson has been one of the best RBs in the league all 3 of his years in the league.

The difference between Johnson and Gore is one refuses to honor the contract he signed and the other is willing to play football.  Yeah, Gore is due 5 million dollars this year but using the same retarded logic Johnson and other NFL players use Gore could get hurt and he's history.  BUT.... here's the thing.  Gore is a team player and a lot smarter then Johnson is, it's not even close.  And Gore knows something else as well, that is all he has to do is show up, God willing stay healthy and he'll get a big contract from somebody.  He'll only be 29 years old in 2012 so don't worry, somebody will pay up big for Gore.

It'll be interesting to see what happens if Gore stays healthy and has a great season and 8 or 10 games in the 49'ers offer him an extension. Does he accept it or does he test free agency?  He can say all he wants that he wants to stay with the 49'ers but if his agent promises he could make a lot more money somewhere else, it'll be interesting to see what Gore does.

About pampered NFL players, DeathSquad, here's a stat for you:

The average lifespan in the U.S. 78 years. For NFL players it's 52.

And NFL teams constantly cut guys on contract and stop paying them. The contract only applies when the player actually plays, unless money is guaranteed. Injured guys with no guaranteed money are cut all the time.

Gore, Man the F up and STFU. You signed the contact, NOW play and be quite. I am tired of these pampered NFL player's complaining about their contracts. I made 20,000 dollars last year. What did you make? I struggle to pay my bills, feed myself, can't ever take a vacation or buy nice things.

You are making 5 million this season....Do you even know how many people would kill your that money? Stoping spending your money on cars and ho's, houses, vacation and maybe you would be complaining about money so much.

I love my 49ers, but I say trade his ass..or only give him 20,000 bucks extra for the year.
