Terrelle Pryor to play QB in final preseason game

It feels like we've written about Terrelle Pryor a million times since he decided to bolt Ohio State and head to the NFL. (The actual answer is 62. So there's that.)

Perhaps that's because of his up-and-down status for the NFL's supplemental draft. Or perhaps that's because he's such a talented player who presents tons of upside but remains an enigma, particularly with respect to what position he'll play as a professional.

Whatever, for those that want to see Pryor as a quarterback, you're in luck -- Raiders head coach Hue Jackson told Michelle Tafoya of NBC on Sunday night that Pryor, who didn't play in the third preseason game against New Orleans, will begin his career with Oakland as a quarterback.

"We're gonna start there first and see where we go," Jackson said.

Pryor, who recently signed a four-year deal with Oakland, did some warm-ups under center and was briefly in the silver-and-black uniform and on the sidelines during Sunday's game, but eventually left.

Tafoya also reported that Pryor would be available for the Raiders final preseason game against the Seahawks.

This makes a lot of sense, actually, because you don't see starters get a ton of time during the final exhibition affair, and Pryor will be missing the first five games of the regular season; getting him out there and giving him some run under center won't put anything at risk and it'll at least the Raiders see what Pryor can do in live NFL action.

And since this is the Raiders we're talking about, it wouldn't be shocking to see them give Pryor plenty of run as a quarterback if he looks even remotely competent during the final week of the preseason.

Terrelle Pryor to play QB in final preseason game

Come on.  Don't go hatin on Jeannette.  You even spelled it wrong.  I love that town.  Don't prove everyone wrong?  Why not?  He did that already by going to a big d1 school at qb.  Everyone was saying he would become a receiver.  He will do it again.  And the Raiders believe he is a qb too.  They are pro scouts and coaches in that organization and I am sure they know more than you.  Later

Get a life man.  Lets see.  He breaks a minor ncaa rule for selling his own stuff along with teammates.  He apologizes multiple times including on national tv after the sugar bowl.  He never cheated (meaning gaining an advantage on the field)  Tress lies and commits a major ncaa violation so he gets canned.  Any sanctions from the ncaa are going to stem from Tress's violations.  I guess you hate Troy Smith, Chris Carter, especially Jim Tressel, etc. on and on and on.   I wish him nothing but the best at the pro level and hope he becomes a great qb.  Later

Being a wide receiver is the fig newton of the media's imagination.  He's a QB.  :)

Glad to hear Hue Jackson said Pryor will begin his time with the Raiders at the QB possition.

That what Pryor is, A QB, not a TE or WR.

I hope he does well and can step in after the susspension is served. I have the feeling there is going to be ton's of injury's in the NFL this season. Would be great for any team to have a compitant and mobile QB, who can step up and compete. Pryor will get plenty of attention in Oakland and I hope he can live up to it.

Good Luck To Pryor.

Terrelle Pryor to play QB in final preseason game

Even though the last preseason game is just a glorified taxi squad scrimmage that the owners make alot of cash off of it will be interesting to see how Terrelle Pryor handles himself in the league at this point.  Getting him some run in this game can lead the Raiders to further discussions with him on whether he will be playing QB through the life of his contract or not.  I'm actually fine with Jason Campbell as the QB for the Raiders.  Giving him some time with the same personell will definitely help.  Getting a few upgrades was necessary but the loss of Zach Miller will be big for his performance curve.  I think Campbell can play the game but he is always involved in a revolving door of offensive coordinators (or schemes) and the vital pieces around him, whether it is O-Line changes or to his receivers.  This year is really no different but let's see what Campbell has up his sleeve (if the line can keep him off his back).

chris-g2 - How can we possibly tell he would be a star at another position? And if he moved to WR, he would be on the same deal he is on now, as he is a rookie effectively drafted in next year's third round. He may make that move at some point, but having never been a wr in his career, we don't know if he has ANY route running or seperation skills. I'm guessing he has the natural ones that his size and speed will give him, but having never played the position, he would probably be no better than DHB is at the moment.

So if he can earn his dollars being a QB, then he will be a QB. QBs earn a LOT more money too. And good ones are vastly more valuable - even back-ups.

lumpoco - why do you have to be down the best Raider QB since Gannon? PLease don't get me wrong, I don't think he is a great QB, but he put together the best season for the Raiders since '02, both statistically and in terms of wins. I know the running game helped a lot, but wasn't that the same running game we have had for two or three years now? And previous QBS didn't fare too well either did they? Didn't we have back-to-back 500 yard games for the first time in FRANCHISE HISTORY with Campbell at QB? He won more than he lost, with no receivers, a crappy line and an oft injured starting running back.

Credit where credit is due. Campbell is our starting QB and will be barring injuries. Pryor will only play in garbage time this year if at all. Please stop hating on a player who, since he has relaxed and isn't looking over his shoulder at a Cable favourite, has played well.

I just don't understand why this guy would pass up being a multi-millionaire at another position. TP, you will never ever be an elite or even decent QB at the NFL level. Matt Jones, Troy Smith, ringing any bells here? Jones could have been a decent WR if his nose wasn't so stuffed up. TP get it together and be all you can be. There's no shame in making 4 mil a year as a 6 foot 5  wr that can run a 4.4 40. Trust me I've hung in Jeanette enough times to know that cash will get your family WAY out of there. Don't be a third or second string qb in the nfl! Be a star! You can be, just not at qb. I know you want to prove everyone wrong but don't. Show us the player you can be! Oh and if you just came home I bet Animus would have Tatted you up for nothing in Greensburg!

Jason Campbell will be riding the pine by game 8. Mr. Pryor can throw, run and not pout as much as Campbell. How else to explain the Raiders getting rid of Gradkowski simply because Campbell felt threatened by him and did not want to compete for the QB job. Say what you want about Alex Smith, but you cannot say that Smith is not a fighter or who does not play through pain. The guy was playing QB with a separated shoulder on his throwing arm.
